Following the announcement in The Intelligencer yesterday morning that a charity ball would be given at Rose Hill Club next Tuesday night) and in response to a call for a meet ing of members of the organization at I the chamber of commerc? at ll o'clock Wednesday morning for the purpose of perfecting details of the, ?function, a representative portion of the club membership met yesterday ut the appointed place and selected com mittees and transacted other mattera with reference to the entertainment. The meeting yesterday morning was I presided over by Robert E. Lig?n. | chairman of the Charity Ball commit tee. Following the proposal and adop tion ot a resolution to have a charity! bell at Rose Hill Club on the evening | of Tuesday. The time of un maskiag will be announced later. It j waa decided to charge |2 and $1 for 1 tickets. The two dollars tickets will admit a gentleman or a gentleman anti a lady. Broadwell yester day and heard the trial of six negroes on charges of gambling, the same be l?g participants in a hot supper func tion held Tuesday night at the domi nic of one Jerry Pickens, on the plan tation of Mr. D. Jerry Pickens, Pringle Acker, An drew Williams, Jim Mllwee, William Warden and Mack Pickens are the names of the six negroes figuring in the comedy. They were captured by Deputy Sheriff Olin Sanders and Deputies Bill Drennan and Jim Wil liams out of a party of .20 or more who were enjoying a game of "skin" after a bot supper, at which there were a hundred or more present, had departed from the scene of revelry. Prof. Lueco Gunter, state inspector of rural elemental schools, this official spoke frequently of some splendid agricultural work which was being done by some schools in Dar lington county. Some five schools in that county made up a fund and en gaged an expert agricuturalist to teach this subject in these schools. In connection with the schools there is operated a demonstration farm, where the pupils are permitted to put into practice the theories of the class room. The experiment han attracted considerable attention throughout the country and. there \B a general demand in some counties of the the State for the establishing of tho agricultural course In the schools. The details of the proposition Prof. Long has In mind were not made public by him yesterday morning in conversation with The Intelligencer, but it was understood that the plan he is working on ls similar to the on which has been ppt in practice by the schools of Darlington county.
