Began Deliberations Last Night
With Very Successful Meeting

Anderson has entertained the poli
ticians, Anderson has entertained the
veterans and Andersen ?ins entertain
ed ?nany bodies of much importance
within the last year but no body moro
deserving of ?he hospitality of the
commnity has ever been entertained
here than that which is now gathered
in Anderson-the State Farmers'
Union. Delegates lo the union began
arriving in thc city early yesterday
morning and by lust night there were
about od delegates pres ?nt. It was as
certained that this number would be
materially inpressed by the hour for
starting Hie trip to Clemson College
and it is believed that al least ?O'J
farmers will compose tho party going
to Clemson today.. '
Last night the lir^t session of the
union V.??B held at 8:20 o'clock and
was called to order in the court house
by J. W. Rothroek. president of the
Anderson county union. Mr. Rothroek
introduced Mayor Lee G. Holleiuan,
who delivered the address of welcome
on behalf of the city and the mayor
was -followed bj Porter A. Whaley,
who, on behalf of thc chamber of com
merce, bade the farmcrr. a. hearty and
cordial welcome. The response to
tlieso eddresses was delivered hy
President E. W. Dabb3. Mr. Roth
rock called attention to tho fact that
thc first local union lo this state was
organized in the same room in 1906.
The union was then called to order
and it wac foHitd that tho following
officers were present: ? President E.

lumbia; Chaplain W. E. Rodie, of
Wards; Conductor C. W. Sillier, of

A committee made report that it
had audi.ted the books of the secre
tary-treasurer and found all the30 to
he in splendid r.hnpe with correct bal
ances and showing that thc associa
tion was in good shape.

disbursement of funds during- tho lae!
year, the money received, and thq
money now on hand. The union is in.
good condition from a financial, stand
point. Thc president's expense ac
count was read and approved and then
came the report pf the Held work of
the secretury-treasurer. This report
showed that Mr. Reid had been able to
accomplish much along several lines
during the last year and every mem
ber waB well pleased. >
The president's address was 'one ot
the features of the evening and it de
lighted tho audience. Mr. Dabbs M
wrapped up in the work of the farm
ers' union and,ho has labored early
and late for the good of the organiza
tion. He told of what ho had hoped,
and planned during years gone by and
he outlined plans to be followed dur
ing the years to come, by which the
union could""Income - a greater and
stronger factor for helping the
farmer." 1
Several "amendments were proposed'
tb the constitution and after these:
were read they were passed on to. the
committee on constitution. A number
of resolutions were also referred to
the committee on resolutions.
Tho mort interesting feature of the
evening wag reached near tho close of
the meeting when the union took up
'tho discussion of tho activities of the
' local unions in different sections of
