Charles S. McWhorter. stationed nt

ignated today by Secretary Daniels to
inspect thc naval militia organizations
or North Carolina at Elizabeth City.
Hertford, Plymouth. Washington and
Newbcrno. The Inspection is to dc
tremine whether or not the militia or
ganisations aro sufficiently armed, un
iformed and equipped for active ser
vice as a pre-rcqulsito for participa
tion in tho annual allotment of naval
militia funds.

the tooth in the gum. Mr. McKinney
has hoon constantly under the can;
of an Anderson dentist since he ar
rived here and yesterday another
piece of the tooth was found in thc
gum. It is believed that this ls the
last piece to be removed and the
young man is. hoping that he may now
gel some relief.

School Hoard
Met Yesterday.
A meeting of the school board was
held yostordny afternoon in tho ofllce
of E. C. McCants, sn perin tendeen t. Thu
meeting was for thc purpose of con
sidering plans for the rebuilding of
tho Glenn street school and for a con
ference with the architect. It was de
cided at this meeting to take Imme
diate action on the question of adding
two additional rooms to the school
building. Instead of this, they will
wait until the rebuilding has progress
ed somewhat und then decide the mat
ter. This action was taken on the ad
vice of J. J. Dahlwln, the architect,
and will of course be pursued.

Rev. J. L. Harley of Sparianburg,
State superintendent of thc anti-saloon
league, arrived In the elly yesterday
in pursuance of what was considered
an engagement with Supervisor King
to check over thc dispensary petitions
In the safe of tho supervisor. Mr.
King bad stated to Mr. Harley upon
a former visit,thal tho petitions were
in tbe safe and could not bc handlet
except by persons appointed by Mr.
King who. as custodian, in responsible
to tho people of the county for thom,
one appointed by him. was to bc elven
Mr. Harley stnted yesterday that it
was his understanding that hq or some
representation upon tho committee
checking the lints, for he had been re
ceived most courteously by Supervisor
Ktng. who had talked over tho matter
rather hurriedly with Mr. Harley and
one of thc local ministers. Mr. Har
loy stated that he had told Mr. King
that he had engagements up to (he
12th of .lune and he had suggested that
this would bc a day suitable to start
on the work and it was his understand
ing when bc went away some weeks
ago that when he returned on thc 12th,
the petitions were to bo checked over
by Supervisor King, or some one ap
pointed by him. by Mr. Harley or some
one named by him, and by a third per
son, . representing thc dispensary ad
vocates, who was to bc appointed by
Mr. King.
Mr. Harley stated yesterday that ho
was supriscd to find a different ar
rangement when he arrived hore, al
though he recalls that the supervisor
had made the arrangement conditional
upon the advice of his attorney Mr.
Harley stated that he ' has no com
plain as to the personnel of tho men
i on t.'.e checking ovor work, and he
would not for a moment Interfere with
them, but he was anxious to have the
I lists inspected as per tho former con
versation.
Supervisor King stated yesterday
that In counting tho names no the pe
titions, he found that there were.about
1,826. The committee started to work
