TLhe QciyU W. A SCHRodt tUKt&OI. published smr tactsoir MHCtOTM, tuo nt um. C?B4eal8.C4l>M.M,100i KBW YKAK. IfOft. Btfort this issue at The Peo ' "pie reaches oar readers, Christ inasVill have passed, and the dawn of a New Year be upon us. Christmas is a li allowed season, not to be marked by exhibition ofradne Joyousness, :;s it is more properly a season, or an 'occasion for the congregation of all Christians in their churches for the purpose of giving thanks toGodtforHis mercy to dying humanity in offering up His Bon to ah ignominious death that We Jntght be saved. The New Year however should naturally be differently observed. Rejoicing by the many should be the Order of the day. The old yeur Is a thing of memory. There are none so poor but have had some blessing bestowed upon them during the past year over which they may take the New Year day as a day of rejoicing , and feasting. We never experi - ence a more pleasont feeling on New Year's day than when meet ing a friend, or, even a stfanger thah to greet them with "A Hap py New Year to you". Feeling a profound sense of thankfullness ourselves for the blessings bestowed uj>on us during the year just past, and' with full confidence in the Fath er that he will continue to favor us, it is natural that we take pleasure in extending the wish that others fbould be equally favored. TO OUR SI/BSC KlBfcUS. Allow us to Congratulate you upon the happy outcome of Christmas. So far we have not heard Of a.single incidint to mar the day. This applies to our Own community and the county. As to ourselves, the only form of dissipation in which we in dulged was in the eating of too tauchtiurRey, for which we were duly, punished. At the begin^ ning of the New Year, whicfi wiii tar'Vipon U9 before the next issue -of The People reaches you, w'?v want. to make there quest % it among the good reso lutions mule by you on that day is to help us' out by making a faithful effort to secure for us at least one new subscriber. We have endeavored to lie em inently faithful to your interests during the past year, and are profoundly grateful for not only the material, but the moral sup port that lias l>een rendered us. You can, however, do better with little effort. It is our pur pose to make The People a power in this State. To accomplish this puri>ose, it ij absolutely necessary that the publisher mid his patrons be in perfect accord, each working toward a common * Ifoal. ? Along this line, while we do not like to mnr in any manner, the remarks above, we will have to remind our subscribers and others who are indebted to us that the tlirie is rapidly ap proach ing for the payment of taxes and insurance. These two things must be attended to. It Crn t>nly bo done with money. We have numbers and numbers of good subscribers 011 our books who owe for their papers, We feel assured that it is simple carelessness that we have not, yet received the money. Come on friends. Let us start the New Year with as clean a sheet as possible. t We wish you all a Happy New Year. Christmas KxorHsesat ISbcneser Hitfh Sc hool. We regretted very much our inability to accept the very cor dial invitation extended us last Week to preside at the Christ mas exercises of the Ebeneser High School on last Thursday nijrht. Mr. J. A.
