Special to The Dispatch -News.t V Columbia, Oeti 28.?The State Convention of the American Legion, in session here today, went squarely on record as opposing the hospital idea for the memorial to soldiers and sailors. By a vote oC ten to-ono-^do^present-plans were endorsed. ' " Col. T. C. Callisoa. county chairman, for the building fund to erect a suitable memorial to the South Carolina soldiers who served in the world war, is laying plans for an intensive cam ; paign next week to raise the quota assigned to Lexington county. It is planned to start the movement on t Sunday, when every preacher in the ! county is urgently requested to menj tion the matter from the pulpit at the i usual services. Committees have been j appointed' who will make a personal |canvass for funds. endeavoring to | reach everybody. Col. Callison wishes | to announce, however, that it will be j impossible fo~ the committees to j reach every one desiring to contribute I to the cause, especially in the rural ! districts. He wishes to emphasize i that no person need feel neglected if ! he or she is not visited by a solicitor, but that any contribution they wish | to make can be sent direct to him. Subscriptions, so far as possible, will be for cash, ar.d receipts will be issued by the solicitors at the time these donations are made.
