The Germans left here last Sunday
night. Our company will leave soon
for Germany. 1

j Doth houses of the South Carolina
I general assembly convened-promptly
at noon- today. The house of representatives
was called to order by Clerk
J. Wilson Gibhes and the senate by
Dieut. Gov. Andrew J Bethea.
The first business in .both houses
was the administration of the oath to .
the new members. Every new member
of the senate was present. Sever
al members of the house were absent.
Thomas P. Cothraai of Greenvilje
was re-elected speaker of the house
with no ouposition and J. Wilson Gibj
bes. clerk. Sergeant-at-Arms Wilson ?
had no opposition for re-election. The
t only contest was for reading > cleric.
This race was between A. B.. Hutchin- _
son of Rock Hill, reading- clerk for
the past four years, and S. McGowan

None of the senate officers had any

and as soon as he was discharged from
the service he went to work to secure
the agency. The builders recognized
that there was a virgin field for a
high grade car of moderate size and
