I We find the following account of the ' recent robbery, and arre-t of tho thieves in Waltcrboro, in The Waltcrboro News : * O ie of the most daring burglaries ever committed in this county, was perpetrated on Friday night of last week. About ^ 11 o'clock in the night the robbers broke open the back door of Messrs. Terry and Shaffer's store, and succeeded in carrying off over two huudred dollars worth of dry goods and a few pair of shoeR. They also stole some small change in the money dnwer amounting to nearly fonr dollars. About twenty men were t found posted across a small trestle, which looked as though resistance was to made. J Washington, March 6.?The friends 1 of Packard and Chamberlain have been i urgent to-day to secure some assurance i of early action in their favor. The friends of Hampton and Nicholls seem to think that they have made their case as they show no activity now. Iu the Seuate, this morning, Jlr. Wal- lace, of Pennsylvania, submitted a reso- e lution that the credentials of L. Q. C. La- i mar, senator elect from the State of Miss * issippi be taken from the table and that 11 he be sworn, Mr. Anthony moved that [ the Senate adjourn. Rejected ; yeas 15 i nays 36; many Republicans voting with ( the Pemoorati in opposition to ad/o irn- . ment. Mr. Blaine spoke in favor of swearing Mr. Lamar, and said that his 1 credentials were entirely regular, and he : 1 was just as much entitled to be sworn in ', as he, 41 Mr. Blaine, " or any other sen-1 ator sworn in yesterday. Blaine startled ' the Senate. He thinks that Pinchback j . should have been admitted. He favors the seating of Morgan and Lamar. Answering Morton as to what he would do with Kellogg under his line of argument, Mr. Blaine said he had a resolution in his hand, which he proposed to offer j when the present case was disposed of, ! to scat Kellogg. Pawe declared in favor of seating La-; ! mar. Blaine submitted the following: Resolved, That the oath of office required by law be now administered by the I Vioe President to William Pitt Kellogg, : whose credentials as a senator from tne 1 State of Louisiana were presented on the 20th of January, J877. Mr Blaine said: "I do not desire Mr. President, to detain the Senate, by any lengthy presentation of Mr. Kellogg's ; c tee. Hayes and yourself, Mr. President, is permitted to doubt that S. B. Packard, is equally of right the Governor of that State." The Democratic caucus this after..oon had a full and agreeable interchange of - - * / i opinion as to the duty of tne Lremocraiu; senators in the present condition of public affairs. No particulars as to their action have transpired, but it is understood that the general tone of discussion showed a purpose to sustain President Hayes in all rightful measures. The Supreme Court has adjourned to Monday. Gen. Hawley is pressed for secretary of war; Gov. Kice, of Massachusetts. for the navy.
