The wheat crop was au average one, and only a (small percentage of It was lost during the rains of the harvest period; the oat crop was a good oui% and the corn crop will almost certain ly be something glorious. There will be an abundance of corn from the gulf to the furtherest bounds of the south ern country. The recent general rains have removed all doubt on that score. We will buy some meat from the north west, and some Hour, but very little, if any, cora. The cotton or cash crop Is promis ing. Tho Egyptian crop is not d. Ing well, and the short crop of last bum mer leaves the world iu a condition to consume a good average crop. Tho south will supply such a crop beyond ox reasonable doubt. There has been Very diy weather in Texas, lu nearly all of the states the plant is a little late, and iu Georgia it is perhaps uu- dersiced, but from all sections come report*of clean Helds, with plenty of biooms and fruit. The indications, In other words, arc that the south will raise just about tbe amount that a naked world will need. Neither^ wil| the crop be an enormous one, nor will the price be below the cost of produc tion. The happy mean seems to have been hit this year, barring, of course, a disastrous laid of the worms or an early frost. Under »iucb drcuJhstahces the peo ple of tho 8' uth can Will afford to laugh at the Contortions of the New Yoik financiers. While wo may n"t be strictly independent, we are not so, dependent aa some of our long-faced friends seem to think we are.
