A musical will be given at Mrs.
E. L. Moore's Tuesday evening,
Oct., 12th , for the benefit of the
Ladies Missionary Society. An
admission of 10 cents will be

Misses Allie Guthrie of Burlington
and Ida White of Greensboro
are visiting Mr. and Mrs. John
Hugh Stackhouse. They will remain

The Maple Cotton Mill is being
lengthened 200 feet and the new
addition will be used as a storage
warehouse until the financial
condition of the mill warrants the
addition of more machinery. The
mill is something over 400 feet
long.
One of the best farmers and
citizens in the section below Dillon
"got out" with the Dillon market
last year and sold 25 bales of cotton
at a neighboring market recently
for 12.25. Twenty-one bales of the
25 graded strict middling. The
same day cotton sold on the Dillon
market for 13.20.
The Herald would like to hear

This is the time of year when
every community has some news
of local interest and the readers of
The Herald would like to know
what is going on in the different
sections of the county.
The Dillon High School has
just installed 50 handsome desks
which they purchased from the A.
H. Andrews Co., the well-known
desk manufacturers of Chicago.
The desks were bought through
the Herald Book & Stationery Co.
who are agents for the Andrews
people in Marion county.
Alf Kinney, a well-known colored
man who has been conducting
a blacksmith shop in Dillon
for a number of years, died at
Highsmith's Infirmary at Fayette ville
last week where he had been
for some time receiving treatment.
The body was brought to Dillon
and interred in the colored ceme
tcry.
Notice to Contractors.
The memoers of the County
Board of Commissioners for Marion
County will be" at the Bridge
across Bear Swamp near Caddy's
Cross Roads and not tar from the
residence of Robert Oliver known
as the Gordon Rogers place on
Thursday, October 21st, 1909, between
the hours ot 10 and 12 in
the forenoon, for the purpose of
letting out to the lowest responsible
bidder the work of repairing
said bridge, in accordance with
terms and specification of contract.
