D E. We h thing yo them an Our I the iadic of our g II He Got The Coin. A few days since, an agent in a turnout who is going through the country selling patent scales, drove up in the town of Saratoga, ten miles east of Wilson. After tieing his horse he entered one of the stores and after convincing the boss that his was the only reliable scale on the market a sale was made. After the transaction had been clinched the agent whispered to the store-keeper: "Say friend; I am as dry as a peach blossom after a nipping frost; tell me, haven't you got something that's good for the stomach's sake?" "No," said the store keeper "it's all gone but just a little corn.'' "Well for the Lord's sake let me have a nip of that?here's half a dollar give me a half pint." Said the store keeper, "Let me look into your eye?I want to see if I think I can trust you." "You may trust me with your life. I'll suffer death before I will betray you." "I think you arc safe, said the store-keeper?I'll let you have it with the understanding that you get out ot sight of Saratoga l>efore you broach it." And going in-the back room the dispenser of corned herring and cod fish proceeded to fill a half pint flask with shelled corn. Judge of that peddler's chagrin when he unwrapped the paper from the bottle and found what iteontained. He muttered: "Ding that country storekeeper: he thinks he's smart. He's got my fifty cents for a pint of shelled corn, but I'm nine dollars and eighty seven cents ahead on that pair of scales I sold him for twelve plunks." Card of Thanks. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tabcr and our many friends at Mpple mill for their kindness during the illness of our son Davis, who recently had his arm amputated from injuries in the mill.
