Observed In Several Of The Churches B:
Christmas Trees And Services-Day
Passed Off Quietly.
Christmas Day passed off very
quietly in Newberry. 'The weathei
was as disgreeable as a Christmas
Day could well be. Rain fell con
tinuously during the iorning and
through most of the afternoon and
there were. very few people other
than those called by business on the
streets.
On Christmas Eve night there
was the usual celebration by the
shooting of fireworks and it was
during this celebration that a negro
lost his life.
IUCT11ODIST CIIRISTM AS TREE.
A Christmas tree service was held
in Central Methodist church o
Thursday night. The tree was very
beautiful and was laden with fruits
and candies and other presents for
the -children. The pastor, the Rev.
S. H. Zimmerman, received a toy
pig with an order attached for a
real live pig. A program consisting
of songs and recitations was well
carried out. The occasion was very
thoroughly enjoyed by all those
present.

A missionary Christmas tree ex
ercise was held on Sunday night at
vest End Baptist church, consist
ing of songs, recitations, dialogues,
etc. The little folks acquitted them
selves well, especially in VieW of the
limited titte they had for practice.

Death of a Little Child.
Charles McFall, the infant son of
Mr. and Mrs Charles J. PurCell,
died on Saturday afternoon shortly
after 4 o'clock, aged nearly five
nionthis. Tne remains were interred
in Rosemont Su:day afternoon,
the funeral services being conducted
by the Rtv. George A. \Wright.
The l:t1e boy had been ill for
several weeks. Medical skill and
loving care and attention were ol
