A reader sends us the following letter which we publish that the public may see just how the whiskey dealers are trying to defeat the bills introduced in congress to make it unlawful to make or sell liquor in the United States. "The writer received a letter yesterday from a whiskey distil lery in Covington, Ky., containing a blank to be signed and sent to our congressman and to our two senators from this state. Information at the top of the blank led me to think the whiskey dealer is getting scared. The instructions read as follows: House joint resolution 168 was introduced by Congressman Hobson of Alabama; senate joint resolution 88 was introduced by Senator Sheppard, of Texas. These two resolutions provided for the submission by congress for ratification by the legislatures of three fourths of the states of an amendment to the United States constitution providing for nation wide prohibition of the manufacture and sale of wine, beer and other fer merited and distilled liquors except for mechanical, scientific and medical purposes. Senate Joint resolution 50 is offered by Senator Works, of California. All are measures supported by the antisaloon leaqu<- and other "dry" organizations, which are flooding congress with letters and telegrams urging their passage. No state denies to the individual the right to use liquors. The right to use necessarily implies the right to purchase. The right to purchase is of small avail if this attempted national legislature, by prohibiting manufacture and sale should make it impossible to purchase. We urge you to protest this sumptuary legislatson which effects the right of each individual to regulate his own conduct. We urge vou to detach the slip below, sign, address and mail to the congressman from your Atrict at once.'" * The?)utR's vAJui}jamu!( No Present like it for any one in any home at any price.
