L was arrested near Pendleton, on Fri^
day last, for passing counterfeit coin.
He represented himself as a Virginian,
says lie was lately engaged in
the employ of a tobacconist trading
through this country, that he bought
| the coin with greenbacks in North
r Carolina. Upon a hearing of the
r case, the Court ordered that he be
admitted to bail in the sum of three
} hundred doliars for his appearance at
court. As yet lie is in the custody
of the Sheriff, having failed to give

droves to come to Greenville the present
season. They arc from Tennessee,
and are very good sized, and fair
condition. The lowest' price asked,
315 far as understood, is eleven cents
per pound, gross, with but few buyers.

came into Lexington in force
yesterday, under the command of
Polland Clemens. Col. Montgomery
demanded tlie surrender of Clemens,
and on his refusal, a light ensued, in
which Ciemens was killed, and one of
the bushwackers mortally wounded.
Montgomery lias arrested several of
the most prominent secessionists, and
holds them as hostages for the safety
of loyal citizens.
New Orleans, Dec. 15.?The report
is credited, that should the clergy
be successful in raising a loan for
Maximillian, he will remain at the
head of the government.
