BQ tiff AM, Governor and Commander-in- Chief in and over the State of South Carolina. ^ WHEREAS INFORMATION HAS BEEN REceivcd at thiB Department that an atrocious murder was committed on the Ilth instant upon the body of ELIAS GRANTHAM, a Deputy Sheriff of Marion District, whilst iir the discharge of his duties as such Deputy ; and that NICHOLAS W. GADlJT, CHARLES TART, and DAVID BEASLEY, a free person of color, stand charged with said murder, and that said poraons have fled from justice: Now, know ye, that to the end justice may be done, and that said GADDY, TART and BEASLEY may be brought to legal trial for their offence, as aforesaid, I do hereby offer a reward of Ttoo Thousand Dollars for the apprehension aod delivery of the three offending parties in any jail in this State, or One Thousand Dol-' tars for NICHOLAS W.
