MESSRS. HERRING _ CO.:?Q EN TLEM EN :
Though the destruction of the American MtiBcnm
has proved a serious losa to mysoU and the public, I am
happy to verify the old adage, that "It's au il1 wind that
blows nobody good," and, consequently, congratulate
you that your well-known Safes have again demonstrated
??eir superior fire-proof qualities in an ordeal of unu

The Safe you made for me Rome time ago was in the
oilier of the Museum, on the second floor, back part of
the bnilding, and in the hottest of the fire.
After twenty-four hours of trial it was found among
the debris, and on opening it this day, has yielded up its
contents In very good order?books, papers, policies of
insurance, bank bills, all in condition for immediate
nee, and a noblo commentary on the trustworthiness of
Herring's Fire-Proof Safes.
Truly yours, P. T. BARNUM.

FROM THE HON. THOMA8 B. "FLORENCE.
Washington, January 1, ltiCA.
Gentlemen :?Having stated it vcrbaBy to you, I havo
no hesitation in writing tho fact, that I experienced
marked benefit from your Hoofland's Gorman Bitters.
Daring a long and tedious Bessioii of Congress, pressing
and onerous duties nearly prostrated me. A kind friend
suggested the use of the preparation I have named. I
took his advice, and the result was improvement of
health, renewed energy, and that particular relief I ?*.o
much- needed and obtained. Others may bo almilarly
advantaged, if they desire to be.
Truly your friend, THOMAS B. FLORENCE.

Evans?Gentlemen :?I havo recently been laboring nn
dor the distressing effects of indigestion, accompanietl
by a prostration of the nervous system. Numerous
rcmodles woro recommended by friends and some of
them tcBted, but without relief. Your Hoofland's Ger
man Bitters were recommended by persons who had
tried them, and whose favorablo mention of the Bitters
induced mo also to try them, I must confess that I hod
an aversion to patent medicines, flmm the "thoussand
and ono" quack 'Bitters," whose only aim seems to be
to palm off sweetened and drugged liquor upon tho com
munity, in a sly way; and the tendency of which, I
fear, is to mako many a confirmed drunkard. Upon
learning that yours was really a medicinal preparation,
I took it with happy effoct. Its action not only upon
the stomach but upon the nervous system, was prompt
and gratifying. I feel that I have derived great and per
manent benefit fxom tho uso of a few bottles. Very res
pectfully yours. Vf. I>. SEIGFRIED,
