Wa learn that the cotton gin of Mr. A. C. Mc
K.I ia HT, of Williamsburg, took Aro while rnnning,
f\ day or two ago, whioh resulted in consuming
the gin house and fixtures, about eight balea of
cotton and Ibo sood from about fifty bales. Tho
gin took Aro from some combustible matter tn
the cotton.
Pine Cotton Seed.
Mr. JOSKPU M. WILDRR offers for sale, by
advertisement, on another column, some cotton
seed of unusually fine variety. A baie from thia
seed, shipped by him, on the 25th of October, to
Messrs. HILL A MORRILL, of Now York, was en?
tered by them on statement of returns of sate, as
lomj maple, and ?old for 18 cents, which was
more than one cent above the highest grade of
Orleans In that market at tb. time.

Mr. Il OB RUT Dit A Y TON COOPBR, Sr., a worthy
and valuable citisen, recontly of Sumter County,
died suddenly, tn Darlington, on the 23rd ult.
We have learned that so sudden and unezpeoted
was his death, that he literally fell dead, aa
though a bullet had pierced > is heart. Ho leaves
alarga number of highly esteemed and respecta?
ble relatives, besides his own devoted family
circle, and many friends, to mourn his loss.

Mr. Jossen T. CUMMINGS, which occurred on
Friday last, after a brief but painful illness.
Mrs. CCMMIMOB, we learn,. was the mother of
thirteen living children, most of whom are in
the tender years of childhood ; and, never, pro?
bably, was the endeering and devoted rslatlon
ehlp of mother more tenderly felt and sacredly

Death of Br. Wm. Boat?
We have been greatly pained to learn of thu
sudden death of DR. WM. POST, at th. residence
of his brother in-law, Mn. HENRY L. PINOKHRT,
near Statesburg, on Saturday lost. Dut two or
three days previous, lt was our privilege to re?
ceive a friendly call from DR. POST, and to greet
bim, in good spirits, at our editorial desk. His
manly face, however, bore tho traoes of dlseseo,
and during the brief but pleasant oonversation
that ensued, he remarked that he suffered from
dyspepsia or disease of tbe heart. He bad loca?
ted, some time after tbe war, at Baltimore, and
was fast building up there a lucrativo and Influ
eotial practice. lio was tbe son of DR. RBUBBR
POST, pastor of the Circular Cburob, of Charles?
ton, who died some years sinoe with yellow fever,
