A. llo\ t, .lr i Aslioville, N C., Sept. t> The most ii.ipoitnnt meeting ttie history of the Southern C ton association is now in sess ut Konilworth inn. The exc tive eonirnitteo of the aseocial met today to compiler vital ir tvrs and besides the commit! which consists of two from e cotton State, there aie pre* many prominent cotton ?nnv and several of the smoothest t tun dealers in the couutiy. The matter of most import! interest before the commitUi the fixing of the minimum pt for which southern farmers sli hold the new crop. This mat is undoubtedly bothering the s| culators for telegraphic inqiiir have been coming in all day at ing what the committee's ucti shall be. riii> will he announc tomorrow. 1 here is a committee on stai tics to which has been refert tbe reports from the diflert Stutes as to the condition of t growing crop and the minimi: price wil1 he based on this repi of condition. It is stated on ( celleut authority that the associ lion's reports from all the colt States are thorough and eotnplt and the oflicials say they are mc than willing to compare its acci acy with that of the govorume report published today. It c O ) u/i Wo otnln/1 ? ? 4 ^ 4 - 4 ' hibu uv oluitu viii iimiiuriiy it the condition will be shown to less favorable than is indicated the government report. This w inevitably make for a bullish t dency in fixing the minimi price. The chairman of the com milt on price is E. D. Smith, the Sit president of South Carolii whose hard work for the Sout em Cotton association has broug him a national reputation and w for him the admiration of all c< ton men whether growers, bpec lators or manufacturers. HEADS FOUR COMMITTEES. Of the six committees nam today, Mr. Smith is chairman four. There have been various proj sitions as to the price, some c< tending for 15 cents as tho mil mum and others for 12 whileot ers are even moro bullish. Th the crop will not bo more th 10,000,000 bales is the genci assertion and on this basis it is t gued the price should go ev higher than last year. A pro; sition advanced today which 11 with approval was to fix the mi imum at 10 cents now and nm a let price at which to sell on t dates during the season. For i stance, 10 cents now, 12 cents October 1st, 12 1-2 cents on t tober 15th and so on. But t scheme that will most likely adopted is to name a minimum rule during September and th fix a later date at which furtl advice will be given. While t minimum now may be 10 cents may be 12 in October The pri will not bo the only importa matter considered but it is t most dungerous, inasmuch uf wrong step ma> wreck the asi ciation.
