After "Pistol Toters"
Request Made tor Appointment
of Deputies to Knforce Law
Against Carrying Concealed
Weapon*.
Special to the State.
Aiken, Aug. 8.? A committer
repaescnting the Aiken County
Law and Order league called on
the county commissioner# yesterday
afternoon in accordance with
the resolution adopted concerning
the carrying of concealed weapons
at the fourth of July meeting of
the league. 1'hey requested that
the commissioners authorize the
sheriff to appoint two deputies to
enforce the law against carrying
concealed weapons. Supervisor
Brodie said that while he was in
hearty sympathy with the league
in this matter, lie could take no
steps to grant their request as the
county attorney had informed
him that the commissioners had
no authority to give any such in*
structions. Mr. Gunter a prominent
attorney, who was present,
Said that the only way that money
could be obtained to pay extra
deputies would be by an act of
the legislature.
The committee next called upon
Sheriff Kaborn, asking him if lie
would appoint two deputies to
enforce the law against carrying
concealed weapons,if the Law and
Order league would guarantee
the money for the uxtra salaries.
He sai?l that he would be glad to
do so and asked the committee to
suggest the deputies should they
decide to have them appointed.
The committee did nothing further
yesterday, but it is thought
that an effort will be made to secure
an appropriation for the pay
of the extra deputies at the next
session of the legislature.
The league claims that the fines
collected from the "pistol totcrs"
would more than pay the additional
officers.

Favor The Warehouse System.
Chester, Aug. 8.?Under call
of SenatorT\ L. Hardin, president
of the Chester County Cotton
Growers' association, a meeting of
the association was held at the
court house yesterday. The chief
topic of discussion was the building
of warehouses for the storage
of cotton. This called out remarks
from quite a number of
members. One of the speakers
who has investigated the matter
to some extent made a statement
as to the cost of such a structure,
varying from $3,500 to $4,500.
The sense of the meeting was
largely in favor of building, A
resolution favoring a rally day at
some early date was unanimously
adopted. A Committee of three
active members of the association
was appointed to make necessary
arrangements for the occasion, and
to invite Messrs. E. D. Smith, F.
II. Hyatt and F. H. Weston to
address the people on that day.
A resolution was unanimously
adopted urging that, in view of
the great benefit to the farmers of
the south from the Southern Cotton
Growers' association, the
farmers of every township in the
ccunty are requested toorgani/ca
cotton growers' association in their
respective townships.
