Importance at This
Crisis.
Special to Tito Stale.
Atlanta, April *21. ? President
Marvio .Ionian of the Southern
Cotton association has issued a
call for meetings to he held hy
fanners, merchants and business
men ot all classes on the lir>t I'tics
day in Ma v. These meeting!' are
very important to the success of
the Southern Cotton association,
and Mr Jordan urges a full attendance.
He requests in this call all tlie
otliccrs of the State, county and
ditl'erent organizations to do all in
their power to secure a large attendance
at these meetings.
The o'?ject of the meetings is to
secure from the farmers the per
cent of the cotton reduction in
acreage, and in the use of ferti
lir.ors in the year of 1005 in each
county or paiish, and report the
same through the State and territorial
divisions to the central association*

The following is Jin ollicial cull,
which is belt explanatory:
Headquarters Southern Cotton
Growers' Association, Atlanta,
Gn., April 15.?Bearish literature
is l>einfreely and persistantly
distributed all over the smith in an
effort to create tlio impression
that the cotton acreage and use of
guano under cotton for 1905 will
be but slightly decreased. The
people who are responsible for
these statements are either largely
interested in trying to depress the
price of spot cotton in order to
fid their contracts sold for futuro
delivery at a big profit, or they
want a large crop grown so as to
,ncroi\so their revenues on handling
the crop. The wish is largely
the "father of thought." Others
nave no faith in efforts of cotton
growers to cooperate on a busincsu
proposition and are doubting
Thomases on general principles
Ueeming it advisable and important
to ha\o one more general
rally before tho end of the planting
season, in order that tho farm
ers may assemble at their respective
county floats and discuss the
situation. 1 hereby issue this
otlicial call for mass meetings tobe
held at all of the county seats in
each of the cotton graving counties
or parishes on tho first Tuosday
in May 1905. The presidents
and other officers of the State and
territorial divisions, and of the
county and parish organizations
are hereby instructed and earnestly
requested to actively take steps
at onco to advertise these mselings
Hilly, and sccnro g.' od speakers
to uddres* tlio people on the date
named. Tl.o above officials sro
also urged to secure from tho
farmers on thut date an approximate
percentage of the reduction
in cotton acreage and m-on* guano
undwr cotton for 1905 in their respective
counties or parishes and
report the same through their
Btate and territorial divisions to
the central association as quickly
thereafter as possible. Jf the
general percentage ia reduction is
not sufficient at thst time to guarantee
a heavy' curtailment in production
for 1905, the remedy can
lie applied before it is too late bv
at onc;o planting a pa-t <>' the

cropH. This cannot I>o dono after
the planting season is over. Jtis
absolutely imperative that a heavy
reduction in the cotton acreage
for 1905 be made and the food
supply crop increased. Any other
course will mean disaster, quick
and certain. Our enemies are
