boards of health will in the next
few days receive ollicial notice
ot the changes made in the health
laws of this el ite t?v the last legi*latnre
and attention will l>e called
to the fact that moinheraof these
hoards are now liable to indictment
if they do not do thoit duty.
At present these boards have a
general idea as to their duty, hut
there is considerable negligence in
enforcing the law. The state
board of health, it is stnted. will
look moio carofully into law hero*
after and will see t<? it that the
sub-boards do their duty. The
attorney general has been instructed
to draw up u skeleton ordinance
which will bo sent to all towns and
villages with in&tructicns to have
such an ordinance passed with
slight changes to suit local
conditions. The law now not
otilj applies to tho stamping out
of local and contagious diseases
but gives boards authority to
prosecute for selling foods that
are unhealthy or the keeping of !
nuisances which arc detrimental to
the public health. Tho enforcelaent
of the law, however, is ail? J
other matter aud it is very doubt- 1
ful if the laws will be carried out
until the state board lakes the mattor
in hand and forces them to do
so. ?Columbia Record.
