OKB AT BATTLES?14,000 PRISONERS
CAPTURED.
New York, July 15.
The Prussians carried Getscbin by storm,
after an obstinate defence, and a junction was
effected between the army of the Elbe, under
Prince Frederick Charles, and the ariny of Silesia,
under the orown Prince. Firs thousand
{irisoners were captured at Getsohiu. The
oases by the Austrians, in the series of combats,
is altogether estimated at -0,000 killed
and wounded, and 16,000 prisoners. In the i
batUMTop the 28th and 20th ultimo, the corps
of &n*trians, under General Uublinz, was
nearly broken up ; It lost 24 guns and 8 tings.
. The Prussians hare retired to a strong position J
between Josephatadt and Koningratz , tlicir ,
retreat is said to hare been precipitate. Tho ,
army of the Elbe adranced beyoud Gctschin.
iq? iviag .01 rrussia was at Uetschiu ou the
8d, on a visit to the army. ,
The London Times says, horrible as the carnage
has been, it is a mere prelude to the
pitched battle now unavoidable, in which a
quarter of a million men will be engaged on \
either side. King Victor Emanuel sent a tel- ,
gram congratulating the Kiug of Prussia on
the victories of his army. The operations be- ,
tween the Italians and Austrians is confined to (
skirmishing. No engagement of importance
occurred in that quarter. The Italians arc ]
preparing for another onslaught, and the sol- ,
iliers eager for the fray.
Farther Point, July 15.
The steamer Nova Scotian, from Liverpool,
with dates to the 5<h, has passed here. A \
great battle occurred on tbo 3d, near Ludaway,
in which the Prussians gnined a complete victory,
capturing 14,0C0 Austrians. There were
terrible losses in both armies. The Austrians
sent in a flag of truce. Austria has ngrced
to a cession of Vcniria nnd accepted Nupoleou 1
as her mediator. Napoleon immediately communicated
with the belligerents.
Lonpon. July C.
The Prussian and Italian reply to the proposed
armistice has not yet transpired. There I
are rumors that Ihe Prussian reply is not fa- ,
Torable. The Morning Post thinks n European
Congress will shortly assemble, nnd that the
French Government will propose a general
disarmament. In the Commercial circle of
London peace is regarded as virtually couclud cd.
Ths Paris Moniteur of July oth. says af- 1
ter having maintained the honor of liis arms in
Italy, the Emperor of Austria, concurring in
ideas cxpresscdin Napoleon's letter of June 1
11th, to his Minister of foreign affairs, cedes '
Vcnctia to (he French Etnperor, and accepts
his mediation for the conclusion of peace.?
Napoleon hastened to respond to the summons
and immectiaiplv iii. !.?. I.-;..
of Prussia find Italy,an order to obtain on ar- |
mbtice." t
The Battle of Sultowa lasted twelve hour--.
The Austrinns were completely routed, losing
fourteen thousand prisoners, one hundred ami ^
sixteen cannon. Three Arch l>ukcs were (
wounded; Prince Lichstentcin and I'ndischcr (
are prisoners.
The London Times says the war is virtually 1
ended. '
U.aribaldi attacked the Austrian? at Mnntn (

wae wounded in the thigh.

The Hanoverian army surrcudorod to the
Prussians, and were allowed to return to their ,
homes. A desperate buttle was fought in 15...
hernia, near Nitched and Trnulenan. Contlicl- j
ing accounts received. A Berlin dispatch
claims that the Prussians drove the Austrian* j
on thc27th and 28th, capturing 8,000 prisoners;
while the Vieiiuu telegram claims the Austrian*
captured 18 guns ami many prisoners. In the
light of Trnulenan the Austrians are said to
have lost from 4,000 to w.UUO killed and woun
<lcd. The Prussians lost 1.000. There was
great rejoicing at Berlin over the alleged Prussian
victory, and the people presented an address
to the Kieg. Vienna despatches, on the
other hand, assert tlfhl Major Ucueral lien- 5
edek prevented the junction of the anny of (
Prince Frederick Charles with the army of
Silesia, and was successful in the engagement to,
of the 27lh uud 28th, killing and wounding P
a great number of the enemy. The London
Times says it is difficult to decide the result,
as the action was not decisive. Indefinite reports
are received from tlie Italian army, which :
has changed its plan of operations.
Derby furs been forced to form his Cabinet
exclusively tory. Trouble is threatened among I

mod.
According to the rmssinn reports tlioy defeated
the Austrians at Nncliod on the 27th, '
and at Traulencn on the 28th, and Munchiiigrnlez
in that vicinity, on the same day. On
the other hand, the last Austrians telegram
gives the following report : 441 ardukitz, June
27 th. The 1' russians were completely defeat- I
cd by the Austrians yesterday, under (Sub- j
lentz, leaving behind one third of their army, o
killed and wounded. They withdrew to l'rus- sian
tenitory, towar<ls Glatz. The Austrian
cavalry under Oen. F.belheim drove the Prussians
out of Jaein to Tertian, und compelled
them to evacuate Molinik and Licpa and retreated
Prussian loss enormous. The Prusnians
here engaged were of the army of the !l
Elba* The Prussians on the Silician frontiers 01
were commanded by Crown Prince Frederick "
William. The Federal army is on the point of "
marching from Frankfort, and a battle is anticipated.
A Cracow Austrian despatch says the Prussians
attacked <)s vynten June 28th, and were
repulsed with heavy loss. The Austrians acknowledge
the I'ussians have destroyed their
Railroads, and seriously interrupted corumuni- 1
cation wilJz different points. |

Tbe National Union Convention
We extract tbe following from the address
of forty Democratic Senators and Representalives
of Congress.
'To tub People or tub United States
?"Dangers threaten the Constitution. The
citadel of our liberties is directly nssailcd.
The future is dnrk unless the people come to
the rescue(*) as essential to the National Union,
we must maintain unimpaired the rights,
the dignity and equality of the States, including
the right of representation in Congress,
and the exclusive right of each State to control
its own domestic concerns, subject only to the
Constitution of the United States (**.) -Vt
present, eleven States are excluded from the
National Councils. For seven lnn<* mm.il.
the present Congress has persistently denied
the right of representation to the people of
those Stales.(*) This denial of representation
has been made to all the members from
a State, although the State presents itself (*)
in the persons of representatives whose loyalty
cannot he questioned under any existing Constitutional
or legal test. The representatives
of nearly one-third of the States have
not been consulted with reference to the great
questions of tho day ( *) This state of things
should be removed at onco and forever. Therefore
to preserve the National Union; to vindicate
the sutTering of an admirable Constitution;
to guard the States from a covert (*) attempt
to deprive them of their true positiou iu the
Union, and to briug together those who are
unavoidably separated, and for these great
National purposes on/v, we cordially nppiove
the call for a National Union Convention to l>e
held in the City of Philadelphia, the 14th day
of August next.
Signed by forty Democratic members of the
