Twenty-two (22) sons and daughters of
Clinton Mills, Inc. and M. S. Bailey and Son,
Bankers employees have applied for scholarships
through the Bailey Foundation.
Clinton Mills' four Clinton weaving plants
produced twelve (12) applicants. Students,
along with their parent(s) affiliation with
Clinton Mills, were:
Tracy Leigh Coleman, daughter of Lydia
plant engineer Bryan Coleman, plans to enter
Presbyterian College and pursue a prelaw
and political science curriculum.
Kevin Scott Martin, son of Bailey Plant
loom technician Clarence L. Martin, plans to
enter Anderson College and study business
administration.
Caryn Babette Littleton, son of Clinton
Plant No. 1 Carding Assistant Departmental
Superintendent Gerald H. Littleton, will enter
Columbia College, hoping her B.A. degree
in English will enable her to be a successful
writer of children's novels.
Ross E. Wagner, son of Bailey plant elec
trician George E. Barnett, Sr., is a graduate
of Whitmire High School and is currently a
student at Newberry College.
Nina Phifer Wagner, daughter of Bailey
plant electrician George E. Barnett Sr., has
her educational goals set on Piedmont Technical
College where she will study Surgical
Technology.
Darnell Moore, son of Lydia loom filling
supplier Virginia Moore, has been accepted
at Benedict College.
Debra Joyce Pace, daughter of Assistant
Lydia Weaving Superintendent Ronnie
Pace, has been accepted at Anderson College
where she will earn an associate degree
in Business Education.
Cynthia Joy Heaton, daughter of Plant No
1 Assistant Spinning Superintendent, will
enter King College and major in accounting

University of South Carolina, majoring in
finance.
Teresa Ann Tyson, daughter of Data Processing
Manager Paul D. Tyson and Clinton
personnel receptionist Betty Tyson, has
been accepted at Presbyterian College.
Teresa will major in music.
Vernon Edward McCall, son of Plant No. 2
loom technician Carl A. Heaton, has been
accepted at Wofford College. Vernon's ambition
is to earn a B.S. degree and then enter
medical school.
Joe Douglas McCall, son of Plant No. 1
Weaving Superintendent Joe McCall, will
enter Clemson University and major in textile
management.

Plant Engineer Grady Joe Fields, has been
accepted at Brigham Young University. Donna
is to major in art.
Elizabeth Anne O'Connor, daughter of
Controller Joe O'Connor, will enter the University
of North Carolina at Wilmington. She
plans to become a public accountant.
Natalie Jean Wilson, daughter of Super
visor Americus Wilson, is planning to study
business administration at Eastern Carolina
University.

Scholarships
arts program at the University of Pennsylvania.
Two applicants were received from Clinton
Mills Sales Co., New York, these were:
Carl Matthew Schmitt, son of Vice President
of Credit Gerard Schmitt, will enter
Holy Cross University and study business
administration.
Deanne Frances Jason, daughter of Sales
Vice President Ronald E. Jason, plans to
study biology or mathematics at Villanova
University.
M. S. Bailey scholarships are valued at
$8,000 each and interest-free loans at
$7,000 each.
Since inception of this program on August
10. 1956, the Bailey Foundation has
awarded fifty-eight scholarships?at a total
cost commitment of $252,450. Of the 58.
44 have now graduted: 5 from Furman, 8
fromWinthrop 7 from Clemson, 10 from the
University of South Carolina, 8 from Presbyterian.
1 from the Citadel, 1 from Georgia
Southern, 1 from South Carolina State, 1
from the University of Alaska and 2 from
Erskine.
One hundred and fifty-three (153) college
loans totaling a commitment of $641,890
have been made to date. Of these $1,100,
$1,500 and $1,750 annual interest free
