M.S. Bailey Memorial Scholarships Awarded
Three Clinton Mills employees’ sons
and daughters have been named
recipients of $7,000 M.S. Bailey Memorial
Scholarships.
Mrs. Emily Bailey Bigby, second from

Clinton High School’s Awards Night
Program June 7.
In presenting the awards, Mrs. Bigby
quoted her father’s (the late P.S. Bailey)
remarks when he presented the first
awards in 1956: “Our confidence in to
day’s youth is evidenced by this invest
ment in their future. For progress and
achievement tomorrow, we must prepare
our youth today.”
“The success of this program,” stated
Mrs. Bigby, “is a tribute to those who
have been participants over the past 23
years.”
In addition to the scholarship awards,
the Foundation presented $6,000 interest
free loans to Rickey Campbell, Margaret
Deitz, Joy Dickert, Carol King, Rick
Swetenburg, Glenn Waldrop, Lorie
Wallenzine, Steve Wilkins, Jamie Woody,
and Tammy Bagwell, all Clinton High
graduates.
In addition, the Foundation awarded
interest free loans to Ruth Nelson,
Laurens High; James David Scott,
Thornwell; Tom Davenport, Geneva, Ala.;
James M. Pope, Talladega, Ala.; Janice K.
Powers, Pryor, Okla.; Christopher
Raleigh, and Kimberly Raleigh, both of
New York:
Dennis Alan Hampton was selected
also to participate in the Student Loans
Program to pursue a technical education
degree.
The recipients of the scholarships and
loans were selected by a Grants Advisory
Committee comprised of Dr. James Mac
donald, Joe Nixon, Dr. Clarice W.
Johnson, Donny Ross, Claude Howe,
Donny Wilder, and Ed Little.
The parents of the 1979 scholarships
are long service employees with the com
pany. Becky Boozer is the daughter of
Lydia Carding Technician Martin Boozer
and Mrs. Boozer. Martin has been with
the company 10 years.
Becky was editor of the high school
newspaper, the Sentinel, president of the
Beta Club, a member of the National
Honor Society, a National Merit Finalist
and a host of other civic, academic, and
sports activities.
She plans to enter Furman University
in the fall.
Emily Bailey Bigby presents awards
William R. Hill, Jr. is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. William R. Hill. William’s
father has been with the company for 14
years, and works in the Cotton Depart
ment.
As a Clinton High student, Hill played
football, baseball, was sports editor of the
yearbook, a member of the Beta Club, at
tended Boy’s State, was selected a Fur
man Scholar and participated in
numerous other activities.
He plans to enter Clemson University
in the fall.
Maria Livingston is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Wyman Livingston, Sr. Wyman,
who has been with the company 10 years,
is a Plant No. 1 Assistant Departmental
Superintendent.
A National Merit Finalist, Maria was a
member of the Clinton High School
newspaper staff, Beta Club, National
Honor Society, the Drama Club, and
other organizations.
She plans to enter Erskine College to
pursue a degree in chemistry.
Clinton Mills Vice President Claude A.
Crocker is Administrator of the Bailey
Foundation.
Employees of Twin States Construction Company are nearing completion of
an additional 30 space asphalt parking area near the Lydia Plant. The new
facility is expected to eliminate much of the double parking which exists along
Peachtree Street and adjacent Lydia streets.

Vacations Announced
July 4th has been added as the company’s seventh paid holiday.
The company’s six other paid holidays are Labor Day, Thanksgiving
Day, Christmas Day, Memorial Day, Easter Monday and New Year’s
Day.
Vacation pay checks will be distributed June 29 with regular payroll
checks. Payroll checks for the week ending July 1 will be paid from 8:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 6, at the Payroll Department.
Employees who are working July 6 will receive their checks on the job.
Checks not picked up on July 6 will be paid Monday, July 9, on the job,
beginning with the first shift.
A total of 1,227 of Clinton’s hourly paid production and maintenance
employees will share in $272,956.86 in July 4th Vacation Pay.
This payment is in addition to the $224,469 in Christmas “Vacation”
pay paid in December.
Eligible employees in the two periods shared in $497,425.86 in
“leisure” pay.
