The daily herald bulletin. ([Newberry, S.C.]) 1879-1879, October 24, 1879, THE DAILY HERALD BULLETIN Fair Week, Image 3
FRIDAY MORNING, uCT. 24
Among the patchwork quilts, two of
silk, Nos. 745 and 633, and 549, the hat
ter made by a little girl 6 years of age,
were particularly noticeable. A home
made rug, No. 132, also deserves men
tion, we could not ascertain of what
material it was made, but the amount
of work on it -vas wonderful. A wool
en counterpane, No. 333, was a good
piece of work.
The wine committee could'nt find a
cork screw to open their bottles until
an editor came up and furnished one
he uses on paregoric bottles. A thim
ble full of blackb, rry wine was his re
ward.
A very pretty piece of work and
very much aduired by the ladies was
a pillow sham with thread lace inser
tion, made with 25 bobbius. Oh the
amount of ..obbin' done.
Lace work by a child 14 years old,
a crotchet child's sack, a crotchet
shawl, a lace handkerchief. and a large
variety of Green house flowers, claim
ed much attention.
A long, low, plain shanty of undres
sed pine, with a door at either eud had
its scores of visitors. Mr. Thos. Q.
presided. No article was tagged, but
the fag 3 were refreshed.
Messrs. Smith & Christian have had
between two and three hundred horses
in their stables every day since the Fair
began.
Mr. Robt. W. Atchison and Mr. Hen
ry Dorroh have as fine 'pairs of S. C.
raised mules as can be found in the
State.
The order at the Fair Grounds yes
terday was excellent. Not a single
drunken man on the grounds.
Newberry can beat any County in the
State on fine horses. The display yes
terday was something to be proud of.
