?The citizens of Central were
greatly shocked last Sunday to
learn that one of their best beloved
citizens, Mrs. James H. !
Rowland was dead. She had |
been sick but a short time and
hopes were entertained for her
recovery, but the grim reaper,
death, had marked her for his
own. Besides a loving and de
voted husband and two children,
she leaves a host of relatives
and friends to mourn her untimely
death. The remains
were interred at old ML Zion
cemetary on Monday afternoon
a large concourse of relatives
and friends witnessing the sad
rites. Much lias been taken
from this sorrowing huslmnd
and two little motherless children,
and the large circle of relatives
and friends; sweet ties
have been severed, but much
is left. The Christian's hope
and fadeless memories are still
theirs. Her life was gentle, but
like the still waters it was deep.
In her her heart of hearts she
carneci inose sne loved, and j
hor hand was never weary,
!
and her step never failed in
ministering unto, caring for,
waiting upon those who were in
anyway dependent upon her.

Attention to the Coming Legislature.
It is a bad policy for any one
to talk about another behind
their back, because they are not
there to show up the other side.
We might make a lot of good
men appear in a bad light by
only showing up one side.
But here we are face to face
and if the present Legislature
has any u:ood side let them show
it up.
I ask them where their prohi
bition is in this State? J answer:
It is only on the pages of a few
political papers and in the minds
of fools. Is there a single city,
town, village, yea, asingle community
Whero whiskey is not
sold to any one who has the price

Are there not more people
selling whiskey today in this
state than over before?
Where does the profits go? 1
am sure the schools are not getting
it, and there is where it is
most needed. Now it takes
twenty-tive to fifty dollars per
month out of the average man's
pocket, besides his tax, if he
tries to educate his children.
Do you remember what I told
... r x i i ? *
yuu iroin uic suimp inree years
ago about rations and the price
they would go to?
Now if this legislature don't
appropriate at least one-quarter
million dollars annually for the
common schools in the country
the best farmers will be forced
to move to town and leave the
negroes without hossef, and then
the farm that produces from 50

hogs for the market that goes
direct to the nearby town, will
come up lacking and then the

The legislative man who has
tlio poor of our country at heart
should go (o doing something
for our benefit and not so much
that is to our injury as they
have been doing.
