The board of dlrccnors of tho cham
ber of commerce mel in the rooms of
tho chamber yesterday afternoon at
fcilO o'clock for tho purpose bf dis
missing tho future course of this or
ganization- After full discussion lt
vas tiho sense of the board that the
city of Anderson could in no way af
ford to bo without a chamber of com
merce
It was shown that Greenville,
Bpartanburg, Columbia, and In fact
all the livo cities of the state have
an active chamber- of commerce which
is of vast importance to each or
these communities. Tho members ex
plained that Anderson cannot afford
to be without a chamber of commerce
but what the future of the present or
ganization rosta solely with the citi
zenship of this community. There
are members wlbtt have not met their
obligations to tho chamber of com
merce and consequently tho organi
zation ls in debt.
lt Is tho purposo of tho members of
the board of directors to make a per
sonal canvass within tho next few
days with a view to collecting the
funds needed to liquidate the indebt
edness, and also with tho earnest hope
that the chamber may bo continued
as an agency for good for tho entire
community.
It .was pointed out that with Green
viii, Spartanburg and all of tho neigh
boring cities having their Uvo and ac
tive board of trades, Anderson would
bo left far behind unless site bas an
organization whose principal business
ls to look out for tho interest of tho
city.
Tho board is aware that mis'takoa
havo been made In the past and Its
members aro perhaps most cognizant
of the fact than anyone, hut it is now
time for all of these to'bo forget ron.
Tie peoplo are now asked to ho!tl ij*>
tho hands ot the board or directors
and again place tho chamber of com
merce Sn a position to be-more active
and useful than It has ovor been.
Tho peoplo of tho city aro Urged ?i
loin with tho board of dlroctors in
this causo and pay up ts.clr old sub
scriptions, and mako nev,- obligations
tb this causo which means se much
to tho community.
