affability and fidelity. It so happened
that this young lady, by name Margaret
Atkinson, was about to be married, and
the news reached the good vocalist’s ears.
She immediately purchased for her a be

rings, gloves, bonnet, etc., and with her
own hands attended to her toilet on the
morning of the ceremony. This done,

ertson, theru is not one which ought to
he so carefully attended to as the feet.
Every owe know s from experience that
colds, and many other diseases which
proceed from the “ wheel of the sys
tem, ’ that the circulation of the blood
may lie very easily checked there.
; Yet of all this, allhough every per
son of common sense should lie aware
of the truth ol w iiat we have stated,
there is no part of the human body so
much trifled with as the feet. The
young, ami would-be genteel-footed,
cramp their feet into thin-soled, pinch
ing hoots and shoes, in order to display
neat feet in the fashionable sense of the
term. There is one great evil, against
which every |>ersoii should be on their
guard, and it is one w Inch is not often
guarded against—we mean the change
of warm for cold hoots or shoes. A
change is often made from thick to
thiu-solcd shoes, without reflection on
the consequences that might ensue. In
cold w, ather hoots and siioes made of
good thick h'alher, both insoles and np-
jiers, should Im* worn by all. Water-
tights are not good if they arc air-rights
also; India rubber over-shoes, should
never he wom except in wet, splashy
weather, and then not very long at
once. It is hurtful to the feet to wear
any covering that is air-tight over them,
ami for this reason india-rubber should
be worn ns seldom ns possible. No
part of the body should he allowed to
have a covering that entirely obstructs
the passage of the carbonic gas from
the pores of the skin outwards, and
the moderate passage of air inwards
to th« skin. Life can ho dcstroved in
a very short time, by entirely dosing
closing the pores of the skin. Good
warm stockings and thick-soled boots
and shoos are conservative of health,
and consequently of human happiness.

“It is remarkable, hut not well known
fact, that in the archives of our Gov-
eminent wo have an engagement made,
in Jackson’s administration, between
the Uniled States, England and France,
that Spain shall remain in undisturbed
possession of the Island of Cuba.”

chant can give for not advertising, is,
that by refusing to let the public know
that lie has goods to sell, he is not sub
ject to the expense of employing clerks
to assist in selling them.
A minister approached a mischievous
urchin about twelve years old laying
his hand upou his shoulder, thus ad
dressed him:

District, and that her name is Christia,
and that the Overseer’s name on the
E lautation she left is Levenham. and the
•rivers name is July, and the Plantation
is called Deer pond Plantation.
