The Tax-payers of Kershaw District ARE HEREBY NOTIFIED THAT the books for receiving returns for State Taxes will be opened in Camden, at the store of Mr. James Jones, on Monday the 2nd of April, and will be kept open until the 15th day of May next. All parties failing to make their returns previous to that time will subject themselves to the penalties imposed by law. The following are the articles liable to taxation, and for which returns on oath are required, viz: 1st. AH lands, houses, lots, &c., owned on the 1st October, 1885, the actual market of which on that date must be given. 2nd. Incomes arising from factorage, employments, faculties and professions (including the profession of dentistry) exercised between the 1st October, 1864, and 1st October, 1865. 3rd. Commissions received by brokers, vendue masters and commission merchants between the 1st October, 1864, and 1st October, 1865. 4th. Number of dogs owned or held on or since the 1st of January, 1866. 5ih. Premiums collected between the 1st Octoncr, 1864, and 1st October, 1865, by insurance companies incorporated .1 ?_ f , _ witnin mis ouiie. 6th. Premiums collected between the 1st October, 1864, and J at October, 3865, by agencies of insurance companies .incorporated without the limits of this State. 7lh: Sales of goods, wares and merchandize made between May 1st, 2865, ami January 1st, 1866. 8th. The value of all articles manufactured in this btate for sale, barter or exchange, held on the 1st October, 1805. 9th. The value of all spiritnous liquors on liaud on the 1st October, 1865. 10th. The value of all cotton, crude turpentine, spirit" of turpentine and rosin on hand on the 1st October, 1865, not including the crop of 1865. 11th. The amount of all sales of colton between the 1st May, 18C5. and 1st October, 1865. 12th. The amount of all sales of crude turpentine, spirits of turpcntiuc and rosin between the 1st May, 1865, and M October, 1805, not including the product of 1805. All male residents of the Distrct between the ages of twenty-one and sixty years, both white and colored, whether property-holders or uof, are ulso required to mule- returns. The Tax Acts of 1848 and 1865 require all returns to be made in the District in which the property taxed is located. No returns will be received by mail or otherwise, unless sworn to according to law. After all the returns arc received, the books for the collection of Taxes will then be opened.
