I Latest from Europe. 1 [ ARRIVAL OF THE ASIA, j Nkw Yoirr, April 21.?The Roj*al Mail Stea m i er Asia has arrived from Liverpool, which port j she left on the 10th instant. After the arrival of the Asia out, on the 6th nst, the dullness iu j I the Liverpool Cotton market increased, buyers having a slight advantage in the common qual*? -? * x? i:?, ]tICS. 1116 uenianci W.ts iiunuM tw iiuiuuu tv test the market; good stapled New Orleans was J in general and rather increasing inquiry. The . - - sales of the week reached 24,400 bales; of which { speculators took 1400 and exporters 2T00. The j nominal prices were, Orleans fair, 5 5-8d; Middling 4 15-lGd. 1 f ? '-V*' * nrLrLrw-LTLnr [ Planters Bank of Fairfield.?The notice of the Commissioners appointed to take Stock in this institution, which appears in another col- j umi) informs is that the Capital Stock of this Bank not having been taken, the books will be c re-opened on the first Monday in May next, in the town of Winnsboro, ano will remain open until the firs't Monday in August next, unless the i ' entire Capital shall be subscribed before that r k time. It is evident that an opportunity of this kind * t is generally seized upon by capitalists for safe ( [ and profitable investments, and we can only ac- g [ couut for the indisposition manifested on this occasion to take stock, to the fact, which has e [ come to onr knowledge, that a few prominent v (men, some either through malice (a deep seated v hatred to the people of Fairfield,) disappoint- d ment at not havimr been prime actors in this important understaking or a desire to compel I those persons residing in this District, (who some- times find it necessary to apply at other coun- _ ters for accommodation,) to pay tribute to exist- t ing institutions. > Slanderous, and very ungenerous reports were propagated by certain men, in other Districts, against the people of Fairfield, with the design of defeating the provisions of the Bank Bill.? ' Ilowever, when the Capitalists of Charleston and the other Districts where these reports were industriously circulated, are put in posession of r the facts connected with this disgraceful transaction, we apprehend that these plotters and sche- ij mers will find themselves defeated and finally caught in their own meshes. The people of Fairfield need a Bank, and we d ^ trust there are to l>e found a sufficient number of e Bk Capilalists in the State to assist in its establish- 0 gB ment notwithstanding the strong efforts which j havi boon made (successfully with some wc re- l gret to learn,) to use them in order to accomplish ^ selfish schemes.? Winnsboro Register. Before finishing, however, 1 o'clock having arrived, the time appointed for the delivery of the Annual Address before the Association, he gave place to the Orator, Dr. Wylie of Lancaster, who delivered an Address upon the j Typhoid Fever ol Lancaster; at the conclusion *< of which, the meeting adjourned to meet at 8 tl o'clock last evening. Upon assembling again, * Dr. Geddings concluded his Address; after which, the following papers were read before the Association: by Dr. Gallard, on Malaria Fevers, * their causes and mode of prevention; by Dr. n Frost, ou Veratrum Vera line; and by Dr. Bai g ley, on Puerperal Convulsions. I A resolution was then offered by I)r. Charleston Courier. | A Hixt Topchino Love Letters.?The French have completely, of late, excelled them- c selves in the extreme beautv of their note paper, \ r and the tender and appropriate mottoes by which ' it is embellished, but there is a deicription of pa- 1 ]>er of which, I believe, they know the secret, j which I think far more desirable for love letters : i than the most exquisite of their bright sheets, 1 embellished with laced borders or printed wreaths. A gentleman of distinction in France, once re- . ceivcd a letter, warning him of some injuries in- 1 r tended towards him and his family; he placed it 1 in hie writing desk; and, the day after, wished to : 1 recur to it, when, to his great astoiiLmcnt, he foindit crumpled to atoms. The paper had \ been steeped in some chemical preparation, that | ; \ in a few hours had corroded and destroyed it.? ! Now, if love letters were always written on this ' " paper, how much time would be saved! for young ' ladies must per force compress their studies of! these precious productions in a very short space " of time. How many reputations would te saved!; for destroyed letters, like dead men, can tell no ' [ tales. How many lawyer's fees would be saved! [ rfor the most skilful counsellors could never tor J ture a heap of ashes into what they call "docu- ; menta." How much patience would be saved! for, although it is very delightful to read love letters addressed to one's self, yet it is a painful ef- . fort of friendshsp to be obliged to listen to those addressed to other people. How unnecessary, j too, would be the postscript, which is never at- ( tended to: ''Burn this as soon as you have read < *xHTUA UAkAmLib iL'Aiilr] malm fVio II. 1UC VUCIUiab S liiaj^iu aib nwuiu uiMnv V..V request equal to a command sure to be obeyed.
