I ARRIVAL OF TIIE PACIFIC.
S Xew York, Feb. 12.?The steamship Pacific
1 ^ia3 arrived from Liverj?>ol, with four days later
I intelligence.
I Liverpool, Jan 28.?The sales of cotton for
I the four days have h.vn as followers, viz : SntI
urdav, SOUO, .Monday 10,000; Tuesday, lo,000.
i Wednesday. 10.000. j he market advanced an

Orleans Middling, 4 7-8; Fair, 5 1-4. Of the
"-ales, speculators took 8000, an<l exporters 5000.
The demand is good.
.las. Mcllenrv's Circular of the 27th says, that
since the sailing of the Europa the demand for
cotton has increased, the sales of the three days
amounting to 32,000 hales, of which 12,000
have been taken on speculation and for export.?
The advices of a reduced crop, and the upward
movement of prices in America, have brought about
a much more hopeful feeling for the future.
At Manchester, the mills are well supplied with
orders at remunerating price*.
The latest news received from London by telegraph
on the morning the Pacific sailed, states
that reports of a threatened invasion of England
l>y Napoleon* mere guite current, and that the
* Government had ordered 30,000 stand of arms
^from Birmingham, and would concentrate 25.000
troops in London. The Daily News says that
orders have been sent to recall three of the principal
ships of war stationed in the Tagues, with
all despatch, to the coast of England.
The Paris Monitcur publidies the names of
the Senators. M. Barociik is Vice PresidcuL?
There have been more arrest and transportious.

A deputation of citizens of -New fork, presented
Mr. Clay, on Monday, a very elegant Cold
Medal, with a complimentary add rests. The cerTinony
was quite interesting, and Mr. Clay's reply
shows that his mind is still vigorous, though
I his frame is shattered, and hi- voice enfeebled.?
Some citizens of New-York are making a movement
in favor of Mr. "Weirder for the next Presidency.
A great meeting of his friends is called
for the fourth of March next.
The delegates to the Baltimore Convention
from the city of New-York, have been instructed
to vote for Gen. Cass, and hejwill, a< some say,
be the ultimate choice of the whole declgation
from the State.
The President of the U. S. has received an
autograph letter from Louis Napoleon, advising
him of his election as President, and his friendly
. disposition towards this country.
t The President has also received an autograph
letter of a complimentary character, from the Bey
w of Tunis, written in Arabic. The letter came
inclosed in a rich embossed velvet satchel, with
gold borders, tassels and brilliants.
It is to be regretted that Mr. Burt has l>eon
coin] telle J by ill health to ask to be excused from
service on the Committee of Military Affairs, a
position in which he has rendered most valuable
services fur several sessions.
1 learn that the Spanish Minister has received
a letter from <?ov. limit, of New-York, promising
ujMui d -liberation to pardon Jose Antonio
I-opoz, the. Spanish sailor found guilty of murder
in a row in New-York. Calderon went on to
Allianv in the most inclement weather, to lay the
case favorably l>efore the (lovcrnor, or the man
would have swung before now.
Lola Montcs appeared again last night and
1 was well receiw d. She has certainly convinc -d.
or at least mystified the public a< t?? her personal
character. Her vindication i< ] lausible. Aimmlx-r
of public men have call- d upon her, and they
find her, they say, an intelligent and high-bred
woman.
Mr. Cass unfolded bis views to-dav, in a writ'
? i - - - e xv..:, ..*..1
ten spcccii, on me suojeci 01 .tauou'ii iiiki?-?tion.
Con. Cass's doctrine is, that it is our duty
and jioliey to make a solemn declaration to
the world of the opinions and principles of tltj)
Corernmcnt in opposition to the leagues of arbitrary
powers. This is the moral intervention
' that he advocates, and he says it will not lead
us into any of the quarrels of European powers.
Hois not. h" says, in favor of intervention hv
means of an offensive war, and lie had in his
first interview with Kossuth, so informed him.?
Such a declaration as he proposes, will he thinks,
do some good, and yet not involve its in any
quarrels. Mr. Clemens of Alabama, litis taken
the floor to reply to Mr. Cass.
The great majority indicated in the House in
opposition to the restoration of specific duties settles
that question for this session. Hut there is
still some probability that Senator James' scheme
of an advice of ten jiercent oil iron and tine cottons
may pass.
Episcopal Convkxtiox.?The Convention of
* the Protestant Episcopal Church iu the Diocese
cf South Carolina met in this cit v on Wednesday,
the 11th instant, and adjourned after a session
of two dap. It was attended by a large num1*t
of clergymen and a respectable number of
lay delegates from the several parishes and churches.
After the transaction of the business l?cfore
the body, the following complimentary resolution
was unanimously passed on motion of the
Rev. (J. II. Hall, of John's Island:
Resolved, That the thanks of this Convention
be returned to the gentlemen and families
of Columbia who have kindly and liospitablvcn*
tertained the members of this body.

to be laboring under the last stage of
scrofulous consumption, as pronounced by several
physicians, who were in attendance previous
to my taking charge of her case. I?y its us., she
