One of the effects of the late war with Mexico has been to give to her horsemen a high opiuiou of the value of the American breed of horses. The New Orleans Picayune notices the fact that several vessels have lately sailed k from there for Vera Cruz with cargoes of horses, I and others are preparing to go forward. The 1 animals shipped are generally of the best Kentuckian and Western breeds, and are selected p specially to suit the tastes of the Mexicans, I who are extraVagJ'ii admirers of fine horses. A Good One.?Davy Crocks happened to be present at an exhibition of animals, sou?o i time ago, at least, in the city of Washington; ' where a monkev seemed to attract his atten- ' [ tion, and he abstractedly observed, "If that fellow had on a pair of spectacles he would look like Major Wright, of Ohio." A letter-writer says lhat M. Kossutii f lias been served with a subpoena to appear before the grand jury in Washington. Anderson, of Madison county, Miss. The deceased left home in company with kind and affectionate relatives, to pass a few days in the city, and soon after her arrival was attacked with the cholera, which proved fatal in a little more than three days. This afflicting dispensation of Providence has Isft two lovely little girls without a mother, and cast a cloud of grief on a large circle of admiring friends. But he upon whom the stroke falls heaviest; we would not mock the sanctity of his grief by common place consolation. The comforting assurances of that Savior on whom he trusts are sufficient to lighten the gloomy void around hiin. The kind strangers who were so assiduous in their attentions to the deceased, will be held in grateful remembrance by the bereaved husband as long as his heart continues to beat T. CarUon, Miss.
