Attempt to Arrest McCrkarv.?We
2 learn by a report from Lancaster county that
L^a hold attempt was made there lately to arrest
W Thomas McCreary, a citizen of this town, who
has become somewhat notorious by his sorties
into Pennsylvania, to arrest fugitive slaves.
? VI I i
He is the same man who was abusively anuneu
to by Mr. Reed during the Hanway trial in
i Philadelphia, as McCrea; we understand that
.Reed was entirely wrong in that matter, and
gave a false impression of the case. Ilut to
the report McC. is the contractor to carry
. mails between Elkton and Chesnut Level, in
Pa. Notwithstanding he knows the authorities
of that State aro on the look out for him,
he occasionally carries the mail himself, and
lately went up three times in succession. One
night while at one of his stopping places, seven
or eight men came in, one of whom accosted
I him and asked him if he was the mail contracL
tor "Yes," said he. "What is your namef"
T "McCreary." ' I have a warrant for you."
You had as well put that in your pocket." "I
* intend to arrest you," said his interrogator.?
v With that Mr. C. snatched oot a bowie knife
L and told himc he would split him down on the
|( spot if lie dared advance. At that moment
f - another cf the party advanced, with a chair ex'toward
off the knife; McC. instantly
drew u revolver with his left hand and drove a
fe hall through the bottom of the chair, which
| barely missed his second assailant In a
I twinklim? tliev all made out of the house, and
f McC. going out the back way, came off to Ma[
. ryland. We rather suppose they will let him
alone h.-reader, for they may rest assured he
will protect the U S. Mail which he has con?
tracted safely to carry, -j

Let all men avoid rash speaking. They that
speak without care, often remember their own
words afterwards with sorrow; those that ex

"GOOD INTENTIONS!!.
Better Bargains! Best System!!
FOR 1?52.
CASH, QUICK SALES AND SMALL PROFITS,
TIIF, beginning of a new year is generally admitted to
be n good seiifon to for (?oot> Intentions. I intend
then-fore. on the first day of Jannary, 1852, to close the
books so far as crediting is concerned, finding by experience,
that
ir "f *
**A little credit is a dangerous thing."
I am aware that there are many?very many, with
whom y-arly accounts might be made with perfect safety*
and much profit but a Cash Business, properly ronduc
ted. admits of no exception, on tlie principle that when
Good* are sold at ca-dt price*, the tgrel.e month* crtdil of
a John Jncoh Astor is not as good a* the cash in hand of
the poorest citizen. Such mnv not be the doctrine usVaflv
preached in the streets of Camden, but it is orthodog,
nevertheless, and lias always been found current on
'change.
In view of this arrangement, I have re-marked lite whole
of my stock, reducing the profits to the lowest possible
scale, and established a UNIFORM PRICK toull.
1 have now " declared my intentions," an,! appeal to
the public fur a liberal support in carrying titer out, in return
for which, 1 promise yon
BETTER BARGAINS
than ever have been afforded in Camden?a strong asserr
tion. but one I willy fully substantiate.
The above is beyond all doubt, the BUST system, combining
every advantage to the buyer with every security
to the seller, and wherever it has been fairly and honest;
ly carried out, it has invariably succeeded ann proved high*
ly popular.
To those who have so liberally encouraged me heretofore.
1 again re'urn most hearty thanks, and with tbeextra
inducements now offored, I hope confidently, forextm
fnvors. as only i'ash and Quick Sales can suppxt
