BUSINESS IS NORMAL
as usual in Chesterfield.1
Thit is say, buMnow in Chesterfield is
normal o.:J is far better than most
optimists expected some months ago. ^
For tho past six weeks the dry poods
merchants of Chesterfield have had
the be t trade in a year and a half?
in fact busine s is almost as good in
the dry goods line as the flush of 1919
and ciirly 1920?not quite, but almost.
The people in thic immediate
action ha\e been blesse 1 this year
with a good crop on the average and
l' e good prices that cotton *s bringing
is being shown in the good trade*
along l lost all lines.
All traveling men are commenting
on the prosperous condition qf the
upper half of Chesterfield county,
along Ihe C. & L. railway. Every
train is londed down with new goods I
coming in. This condition is not expected
to last any longer than the
holidays but it is certainly the fact
now that business is normal.
Every Sunday the roads are crowd-*
ed with pleasure seekers and thousands
of dollars worth of gasoline is
being burned. Even the negroes are
flush with money again.
This does not mean every one is
rich, for there are many needy cases
but the fact remains that lots of good
money is beir.g thrown away in this
section on joy riding.

MR. HAMPTON SMITH
Mr Ilamplcn Smith died at his
home in the Shiloh community October
2nd, after an illness of twentythree
years with rheumatism at the
age of forty-four.
Although not entirely unexpected,
the news of his passing away came as
a di>tinet shock to a large circle of
friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held in Shiloh
Church, of which he was a consistent
nTember by his pastor, Rev. L.
E. Peeler. Interment was in the cemetery
there.
A large number of friends and relatives
attended the funeral and. covered
his last resting place with beautiful
flower^, a silent inenlo of their
love and affection. He is survived by
his father and the following brothers
and sisters:
Messrs Henry, John and Luke
and Mrs. .TcfT Davis, Mrs. Dan Therroll,
Misses Janic and Mollie Smith.

proceded hiin to the grave several
years ago. His aged and afflicted
mother passed away in the early part
of this year.
