Daisy Chappel, a negro homan of
Columbia, stepped into an elevator
shaft and fell eight stories and lives
to tell the tale. As her fall began she
was thrown against a cable which she
grasped. By holding with all her
might to this cable she so reduced her
speed that she arrived in the basement
practically intact, her most, se-!
rious injury being badly burned
hands and arms.
Contractors at Florence have reduced
bricklayer's wages from $1.25
to 90 cents an hour, with the result
that no brick laying is being done.
W. II. Hegman, a traveling man,
while riding in an automobile between
Aiken and Columbia was accosted by
a pedestrian who asked for a rule,
llegan stopped and took him in. After
riding a short distance Hcgan
claims that the man attempted to
hoot him. Hegan was too quick and
shot his passenger dead. The body
was brought to Aiken where it was
identified by papers in the clothing
as that of John McGuire, of Hoboken,
N. J. A coroner's jury decided it to
be a case of justifiable homicide.
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to thank our friends for
their kindness in our recent bereavement.

Pepto-Mangan Makes Rich,
Red Blood.
When you first feel a tired, allgone
feeling and look pale, your
blood is losing in quality. Weak, impoverished
blood has no power to
fight disease. It takes red blood to
keep you well.
If you keep your blood in good
condition ii. will fight off disease.
You will no; be such an easy prey to
long and expensive sickness. With
thin blood you take chances every
day.
There's n > need doing that. You
can take Pe.jto-Mangan and build up
rich, red blood. With red blood you
are able to win in the fight against
prevailing diseases. Try Pepto-Mangan.
It comes in tablet or liquid
form. Take either kind. The tablet
has the same medicnal value as
the lquid. But be sure you get the
genuine Pepto-Mangan. Ask for
"Gude's" and be sure that the name,
"Gude's Pepto-Mangan," is on the
