DEMOCRACY'S FINE RECORD i
Senator Beckham, of Kentucky, in
a .great campaign speech in that
State discussed the record of the
Democratic administration in the last
seven and one-half years to show how
both in times of peace and in war,
the Democratic administration had
been most successful in the conduct
of the Government. He said:
"No party has come before the
American people in the last half
century with a stronger case or better
record than the Democratic party
presents in this campaign. It has given
to the country some of the wisest
some of the most progressive and
most beneficial measures of relief ever
enacted into law, and it carried
the country sucessfully through the
greatest war in all history.
WHAT IT COST ONE CANDIDATE
As it is the proper thing now to
investigate campaign expenses, in
order to find out how much a candidate
spends to win the election this
report from a Western candidate is
submitted. He goes into details nmro
intimately than some other candidates,
and yet the poor l\ How was
beaten.
Here is how much he sums up what
the campaign cost him:
"Lost 1,340 hours of sleep thinking
about the election. Lost two
front teeth and a whole lot of hair
in a personal encounter with an opponent.
Donated one beef, four
shoats and five sheep to a country
barbecue. Gave away two pairs of
suspenders, four calico dresses, $3.00
cash and thirteen baby rattlers. Kissed
126 babies. Kindled fourteen
kitchen fires. Put up four stoves.
Walked 4,076 miles. Shook hands
with 9,50H persons. Told 10,101 lies
talked enough to make in print 1,000
volumes. Attended sixteen revival
meeting and was baptized four times
by immersion and twice some other
way. Contributed $f>0 to foreign missions
and made love to nine grasswidows.
Hugged forty-nine old maids.
Uot dog-bit thirty times and was defeated."
FORTY CENT COTTON
* Gaorgia farmers will stick to the
price fixed by the American Cotton
Association of forty cents minimum
for September cotton.
J. M. Mills, president of the Farmers'
Union, in the state, has begun
a tour of Georgia for the purpose of
solidly organizing a hoiding movement
Agitation has also been started for
vo^^^ie bonding of the local warehouses
binder the federal system and that
already has been successful according
to .Mr. Mills.
NOT SO SLOW
English people are sometimes called
slow but here comes a story of a
typist that indicates that there are
some fast ones over there. This
young lady, who is called the "Queen
of the Keyboard," allowed herself to
be blindfolded and then typed from

minute. She is said to have achieved
a blindfold speed of 1 7words a minute.
CONFINED BUT
NOT CONQUERED
When seven Kentucky moonshiners
were put in jail they complained
to the jailer that they were not getting
enough corn bread. They were
particularly fond of corn bread they
said. They were such enormous corn
bread eaters that the jailer began to
investigate. He found in the jail a
still made from a coal oil can with a
smaller can under to hold fire. The
men had distilled more than a pint of
liquor from sour cornbread.
This story is akin to that of the
burglars who got into a police station
and stole everything but the safe and
the policemen.
HE BEAT 'EM ALL
The recent Democratic primary in
(ieorgia was not the only primary
held in the cracker state. In the I I
tie town of Whighnm there were
twenty-two candidates for mayor and i
so it was decided to hold a primary. I
The old mayor was re-elected hy a '
small majority, as there were only [
3d votes cast. He was congratulated j
upon winning over so many oppon- !
ents.
KAISER STILL ON THE JOB
It lias been generally suppoesd that
ex-Emperor William, of Ciermany, i
has had enough lighting, hut it !
seems from a recent cable that he is I
still blood thirsty. While cutting,
