Saluda, June It?Special: Weekly
crop notes for South Carolina for
week end June 12:
Conditions generally favorable for
all farming operations and growing
crops have shown seasonabe growth
and development.
Corn?Crop from one to two weeks
late, Stands fairly good. ( olor excellent.
Plants growing nicely.
Wheat?Harvesting has extended
to exterme northern counties. A
large percentage of the acreage in
other sections has been "housed" in
fair to excellent condition.
Oats ?Three-fourths of the crop
lias been harvested, reported yields
being highly satisfactory in most instances.
Rice?Prospects in coastal counties
rather promising.
('ottos?Chopping practically complete
except in widely tlislrihuted seclions,
where'weather conditions have
been unfavorable. Fields are generally
well cultivated and plants have
| shown decided improvement..
Potatoes?Greatest portion of the
^commercial crop of Irish potatoes has
been harvested and marketed at most
excellent prices. Transplanting of
v/oet potatoes continues.
Tobacco?Weather conditions favorable
and plant is making seasonable
growth.
Ilay?Stubble lands are being
-own to cowpeas for hay, l ut the
scarcity and high price of seed will
mean a reduced acreage as compared
kvith former years.
Fruit?Apple and pencil crops
promising. Karly varieties of peaches
ripening rnpidy and shipping is well
under way, quality being up to or
above the average.
Live Stock?No serious epidemics
reported. Beef cattle scarce. Milk
eows appear to he more plentiful. Pastures
good. \i. B. Hare,
