WHAT'S IN A NAME
"Names are names," hut many of '
them supposed to be brand new, ar?
as old as the hills.
The world's largest manufacturer
of automobile and motor truck tires.
The Goodyear Tire & Kubbei Com- "
pany of Akron, was named for
Charles Goodyear, the famous Yankee
inventor who made possible the
extensive use of rubber today by dis
covering the* process of vulcanization
Harking hack to the day* when
Shakespeare's pen was fresh will
ink, discovery has just been made of
the fact that the word "Goodyear" j
played no small or inconspicious part
in several of Shakespeare's works. In
his "King Henry The Fourth," Shakespeare
coined and used extensively u
the phrase, as a means of ejaculation, r
of "What the Goodyear." It was the ii
continual expression of Mistress t
Quickly of Boar's Head Tavern at s
Kastcheap and appears numerous
times in her conversation with Falstaff.
