H. H. Shute, D-'l years of age, is dean
at Lancaster. Mr. Shute was the old-1
est white citizen of Lancaster County.
Commissioner of agriculture, commerce
and industries B. Harris, in his j
annual report strongly recommends a
survey of the counties of the State,
so that much land now untaxed could
be put on the tax books. During his
administration, ex-Governor R. I.
Manning advocated a re-survey of
the State for the purpose of catching
tax dodgers and had a bill providing
for this survey introduced ill the
House of Representatives, where it
was killed.
State Health Officer llayne has announced
that children suffering from

schools of Newberry.
Trustees of the Columbia Hospital

McCoy Corkill, a star long distance
runner of the Citadel, while on a
Holiday visit in Chester met with a
mishap that caused him the loss of an
eye. A cartridge was accidentally
dropped in an open fireplace. Corkill
attempted to snatch it out when it
exploded, a piece of the shell destroying
his eye.
