It is a custom of the Chinese to ,c
burn ceatrin kinds of effigies at the
funeral ceremonies of the rich, the
more wealthy the departed the more
elaborate the figures burned over his bj
grave. These effigies represent every 8a
manner of thing as a human figures, j
horses, sedan chairs, tables loaded
with moneyj etc. The figures usually
conform to some of these stereotyped
fashions, but at the funeral of Mr. Li, m
who died a short time ago in Tientsin, jn
and who was a very wealthy man, jn

selves and made an imitation of the ^
deceased gentleman's Ford car to be

The Third Roll Call got started
with a rush, probably the best organized
movement of any kind ever
put on in this or any other country
Throughout the United States, fully
4,000 chapters, 17,000 branches
and 30,000 auxiliaries, had reported
"ready" for the big push, that is,
they were organized for active work.
The prime feature of the work in
cities and large towns is team working
by rearranging districts, and in
every community, of the city or town
or village or rural community, the
house-to-house canvass is the favored
plan. It is so arranged that the
volunteer workers are assigned to
their immediate neighborhoods,
while the business districts of cities
ire being worked by groups of re:urned
soldiers and sailors, always

teams of women workers specially
