landed in the Fiji Islands, ol
where he took it's photograph. No
crocodiles of this species inhabit the
Fiji Islands, and the nearest spot
where they are known to live is the
New Hebrides, 683 miles distant.
Therefore this crocodile must have
swam 683 miles in the open sea. If
anyone knows of a crocodile that
wants to challenge this record, he
should write to the editor of the English
magazine Nature.

DAMAGE ALONG COAST
Melancholy reports are coming
from farmers along the coast North
of Charletson, in Charleston and
Berkeley counties. The reason is the
invasion of the boll weevil. They had
been hoping that another year would
elapse before the scourge overran
Ihis region, but it. appears that the
weevil has already penetruted as far
up the coast us McClellanville.
For some time it has been known
that neighboring sea islands were se-1
riously afflicted by the scourge, the
yield of staple for the season being
yery much reduced because of the attacks
on the bolls. Sea island planers
have discovered that their cotton
rops are badly damaged.
Those planters who have devoted
i portion of their acreage to other
rops are feeling more encouraged
han their neighbors who still pinned
heir faith to cotton, but they are
iorely hampered in their operations
>y the lack of farm labor. The comlination
of weevil and labor shortige
planters say, can not be beaten
n one season.
Thirteen South Carolina counties
lave been .nvaded by the boll weevil.
This being officially reported by the
state Pest Commission as follows:
