Mr. Arthur Rivers, who is in school at Wofford College, spent the week-end with relatives here. On the night of May 3d, beginning at 8:30, there will be given in the school auditorium a music recital Lv the music pupils, after which the school girls will serve cream. Everyone is invited to be present. Proceeds will go to the benefit of the school. The people of Mt. Croghan and community held a meeting in the auditorium of the Mt. Croghan school house on Liberty Day, the 26th of April. The meeting was opened with prayer by the Rev. D. A. Brown. The chairman, Mr. P. M Therrell, then introduced the Hon W. P. PolJock, tvho, in his usual pleasant but aggressive style, spoke upon the causes of the war and why the United States was in it. He emphasized very strongly the reason why we should all do our part in order to win and explained how crch one could do his bit by unholding the government financ ally and otherwise. Upon the conclusion of his address he introMeR3rs. Hall and Bivens Tucker cer, who told in detail from his own exper'ence some of the horrible practices of the German Army and by > very toucnirp: incident which came under his own view, emphasized th fact that cruelty and ingratitude is the character of the individual German soldier. His address was ttrea ly enjoyed by the audience and he w.i! interrupted several times by the upplause of his hearers. M., was held in Ih < 'hesterfiehl Courthouse. Though a rainy and disagreeabl day, the Courtroom was crowed t 8 its capacity. Hon. G. K. Lane> : Chairman of the County Libert; - Loan Committee was Master of cere , monies, 'the Hon. E. Marion Rue e k# had been announced ns one of ih chief speakers, but failing to aopenr the Hoii^W. P. Pollock made an clo quent and ringing appeal to the pa j Iriolism of his hearers who respondei I'mo and time again with tun.ultou applause. r Ensign McChcsney, of the Arne rienn Navy made a short address ii , v, hich he appealed to his hearers fo . -an and money to help whip tin Iiun. Ho was followed by Lieut Parke, of the Canadian Army, wh< ' was one of the first to volunteer t< j ight in defense of humanity. His ad dress " as short and incisive. The whole affair was enlivened am inspired by the military band fvon Camp Jackson. Subscriptions to Liberty Bond: were called for and Chesterfield went over the top. The speakers then went to Mt. Cro ghnn, where another rousing mectinj was held, with the result that Mt Croghan subscribed her full quota tc the Liberty Loan and wins an honoi flag for the town. At 4 P.
