Jefferson, MeBee, Patriek and
tonight he and Chairman Charles L.
Hunley, of the County Council of
Defense will deliver patriotic addresses
at Montrose. Others who
have assisted in these rallies with appeals
to the citizens of Chesterfield
County to invest in Government securities
are Mrs. II. P. Lynch, the
Re^s. Guess, Punderhurpr, Kirky,
Lawson and Bailey and Messrs. W.
P. Pollock, J. Clifton Rivers and possibly
others.
These patriotic rallies have been
held under the joint auspices of the
mart's >and women's Liberty Loui
Committees and the County and

PATRIOTIC RALLY AT RUBY
There wil be a patriotic Rally at
Rtjby Friday the 19th. A civic pa
rade will form at the School house at
/our o'clock and proceed through the
principal streets of the town. Every
citizen, old and young, is expected
to be a part of this parade. At night
an entertainment will be given, consisting
of songs, tableaux and recitations.
At this time some strong
speakers will discuss questions of vi*
tal importance, on the present Liberty
Bond Campaign. A cordial welcome
is extended to all our neighbors

GERMANS MAKE FRESH GAINS |
Germany's mighty effort on the
battle field of Flanders has won new j
successes. According to the latest
reports the important strategic towns
of Bailleul, Wulverghem and Wytschaete
are in German hands and,
mor" important still, the 'I eutons
have carried a large part of Messines
Ridge by storm.
The successes of the Germans in
the last day have an important bearing
on the campaign on the northern
battle front. If they are cotinued
there must be a British retirement
from Ypres ami possibly for some
distance further north, while the cut
imp 01 me railroad passing through
Ilazebrouck would bo still more serious
for the British.
So important are the points won
by the (jcriiians that the British must
be expected to counterattack at 01 ee
in :.n effort to sweep the invaders
back into the low lands once more.
