The first one was in the corn crib
af Mr. R. T. Redfearn. The lire v/as
discovered by Mrs. Redfearn at about g
9 a. m. and the alarm given before day
much damage was done. It's origin f
is a mystery as the seat of fire was jts
near the center of the crib of corn.
The floor was not even scorched m
though about 50 bushels of corn was W.
ruined. The general opinion is that U
rats deserve credit for starting the
blaze. As several barns and houses
in this vicinity are fairly close together,
the fire could have proven
very serious.
The second fire, which for a time
threatened the homes of Mr. II. II.
Harral and Dr. R. L. McManus, started
in a field nearby where Mr. George
Wright was clearing up some new
ground. It quickly spread to the premises
of these two houses and but
for the quick work of the high school
boys and many citizens serious loss
would have been sustained.
