Both were well attended. Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Douglass attended the funeral last Sunday' in Florence of Mrs. Chapman, wife of Mrs. Douglass' brother, Mr. Sam Chapman, who is well-known in Chesterfield. Grant, leputy sheriff, and Mr. T. W. Gre;ory, magistrate's constable. A fine copper still with a capacity if about 40 gallons was taken and wo and one-half gallons of whiskey , ound. Mr. W. M. Both Pap ' CHESTERFIELD RED CROSS The Bazaar conducted by the Chesterfield Red Cross was considered very successful. About $.'{5.00 cash was cleared for the Red Cross Funds. The gidfesing contest for the name of the doll was won by Mrs. H. M. Odom. The doll's name was "Florence Nightingale." The contest for the ugliest mnn in Chesterfield was won by Sheriff n n r*_ . i ? i". jjougiass. There were about five others in this contest who were all very willing that the sheriff should have it. Speak this softly: The sheriff has heretofore been considered the handsomest man in the state. TAX BOOKS CLOSE The tax books will be closed during the first week jn January, during which time taxes cannot be paid.Books will open again Monday, January 7th, at which time the first penalty of 1 per cent, will be added.
