A Red Cross nurse recently

machines there, one has not been
in use for more than 20 years, and

Quite a deal of excitement was
stirred up on Monday when it became
reported that some suspected alien
enemies were on the island in Great
1 Pee Dee River that is just south and
below the trestle on the main line of
the Seaboard froip Hamlet to Atlanta.
When the police force of
! Rockingham and the posse comitatas
arrived on the scene it was found
| that the parties were deserters from
| Camp Greene at Charlotte. They
have been returned to the military
j authorities for court martial.
Mr. C. II. Rivers of Chesterfield,
j who is in the auto business was in
I town Tuesday.
One of the new Red Cross Ambulances
being used by the U. S. Government
passed through Cheraw on
Tuesday en route to Gamp Jackson.
These trucks have complete equip'

t stretchers, etc. in a handy place in a
container on the side of the truck.

are running late and very much

Miss Mautfie Moore, who lived with
her sister, Miss Olivia Moore, near
Kollocks, was found dead in the yard
of their home sit K o'clock Tuesday I
night. These two ladies, now grown '
old, lived together in the home of
their father, Mr. Henry Moore. On |
the night of her death Miss Maggie '
had stepped into the yard and had j
heen gone only a short time when j
found dead l>y her sister. She was j
hild in the highest esteem by all who
knew her.

COUNTY FAIR ASSOCIATION
INCREASES CAPITAL STOCK
An enthusiastic meeting was held
in the Court House Monday, by quite
a number of our citizens when it wus
determined that the capital stock of
the County Fair Association should
be increased to $5000.00 in order
that funds might be on hand with
which to construct necessary buildings
and fence the new fair ground.
Every one present was of the opinion
that the County Fair was accom- '
plishing a good deal along agricul- !
tural lines, and in the raising of bet- '
ter live sloe1-, swine and poultry, j
The subscription will be open until
January the first, in order to give
every one in the Cuonty a chance to
come in. If you have not already
subscribed, kindly mail your check to
me secretary or the County Fair,
and certificate of stock wil be forwarded
