[ expect to get off for five days during
Fair week and come home to sec
you all. John Rivers is going home
for a visit next Monday if nothing
prevents.
Wc have the best preacher there
iB going. He was offered $500 more
a year than he gets from Uncle Sam,
but he chose to stay with the boys
so I guess he will go with us to
France.
He is acquainted with quite a number
of boys who have gone on ahead
and are now in the trenches in
France. Here are a few extracts
from some letters he has recently received
from some of them:
"We went into a French home one
day and saw lying on the floor a father,
mother and three pretty girls
and a little babe. The Germans had
stabbed with knives all but the baby
but had broken its legs and it had
crawled across the room to its depd
mother, where it lay with the blood
running across the floor from its
wounded legs."
From another one:
"Sometimes when we are in our
trenches we can hear the cry of women
and girls and onco we took a
German trench and there lay u number
of pretty French girls with their
breasts cut off."
From another one:
"I wa? captured by a German
squad and wax put in a cell with another
boy. When they took him out
I wuh hidden behind my bunk and not
being seen wax able to slip out where
1 could watch them. I saw them cut
off his ears, none, fingers and toes
ind then apply hot irons to his body
until he was apparently dead."
Now if that won't muke an American
fight, what will?
Yes, thank God, I am ready to go
to France when Uncle Sam says go
and if 1 die there 1 want to die with
ierman blood on my hands and feel
t an honor. R. L. M.

SEND US YOUR LETTER
Many families in the county will

letters will contain items that will be
of interest to others outside the
home circle. Send us these letters
