C., THURSDAY,May 24, 1917 ~ $1.00 A YEAR IN ADVANCE A New Local Com ^ Formed As Pari A Third Regiment, National Guards,has been ordered recruited for the State of South Carolina. Hans are on foot to organise a Chesterfield company for this regiment. Those who desire to join a local company of the Third Regiment are urged to meet in the court house at Chesterfield on Saturday afternoon, May 26th, at 3 o'clock. This third regiment will be organized at once, and will be a volunteer crimpnf TLneo !? 4U:~ PT ?o* '?v?v " *?x' 1,1 l,1,S company, if formed, though they will have to register, if within the registration ages, will be exempt from the draft. All young men between IK and 35 years of age are acceptable as volunteers. The formation of a company in Chesterfield should especially appeal to the young single men between 21 and 31, who are subject to draft, for after June 4th, no one will be permitted to volunteer and the new draft regulations go into effect. If ^==2=121^ One More Chance The following notice has been rcceived from Capt. W. L. Gillespie, Co. W I, 1st S. C. Infantry: "A recruiting party from Co. I, 1st S. C. Infantry, under Lt. William A. Mulloy, will be in Cheraw, from May 18th until about June 1st, seeking recruits, as all the companies of the First Regiment have been ordered rto recruit to war strength. T T' pany To Be t of Third Regiment % furnish two companies of white troops, and possibly more, and it is far better that our home boys should p;o as volunteers than as conscripts. This is an opportunity of a home company, officered by home men and composed of home boys. Those who will be <lr: fted will be mingled, possibly with men from other States. Some of the young men are of the opinion that only town hoys will be c illed to the colors, hut they are badly mistaken. It is estimated that Chesterfield county will have to furnish about five hundred men, as the quota is based upon the whole war I strength of the National Guard in addition to the new selective army. Thus it can easily be seen that the towns cannot furnish the whole quota.
