Joy riding had another jolt on
Tuesday, when Mr. G. F. Evans, of
near Mt. Croghan, through his attorneys,
Hunna & Hunley, attached
the "John Henry" recently purchased
by the town's chief brick mason, Robert
Watkins. Mr. Evans claims that
one of his mules was killed by this
ear and has attached the car under
the statutes allowing this to be done
where there is injury to property.

Two of Chesterfield's young ladies
have achieved an enviable reputation
in Columbia as musicians. Miss Mildred
Laney, 4n response to a request,
sang a solo last Sunday at the Washington
St. Methodist church and Miss
Vera Melton, likewise was called upon
for a solo at the Main St. Methodist
church of Columbia. We understand
that arrangements have been made to
have these young ladies sing each
Sunday in these churches while they
are in school at Columbia College.

IVERS If
ider the Will of Thomas I
It is with sincere regret that Chesterfield
people hear that Mr. Emsley
Armfield has sold out his hardware '
business in Chesterfield. There is
no one in town who has more friends
than Emsley, and, by his innate cour- A
tesy he has endeared himself to both A"
the people of the town and the sur- 8
rounding community. It would seem
that in choosing his successor in business
here he still had the interest of
the community at heart, for the Duvalls,
of the Cheraw Hardware Com- pany
will be most heartily welcomed 1
in Chesterfield. They will need no in- ^
troduction nor rec'ofrhnendation, being
well-known to the people of Ches-'
terfield County, and bearing a name
in business that is irreproachable. **
You must learn the lesson of
economy. Bring us your Sayings;
we put them to work for you. We }
carry fire and burglar insurance.
C. P. Mangum, Cashier.
