No Combine; '
No Promises.
jjy^>? Mr.'W. iK Stevenson, candiWf
date for Congress, states that !
r the situation is well expressed
by the following, which is found
in the Columbia correspondent
of the "Charlotte Observer:"
"A terrific fight is being made
on Congressman D. K. Finley
jn the fifth district by W. F.
Stevenson of Chesterfield County
Mr. Stevenson caine within a
few votes two years ago of defeating
Mr. Finley and reports
trom the fifth indicate that he
will be successful this time."
He is now only apprehensive
of eleventh-hour stories and rumors
of combines, lie asks his
friends not to credit atiy statements
that may be circulated,
as he has made no combines,
promised no offices or emoluments:
all issues have been
openly fought on the stump and
charges made at the last minute j
should be disregarded. 2t
Forage Poisoning
Or Blind Staggers
Olemson College, S. ?
The past season of rain is just
such a season as usually precedes
an outbreak of forage poisoning
or bliiul staggers. The storms (
have caused much feed to become
mouldy and ferment. When the
horses eat food in this condition
forage poisoning results. Old
corn or old hay which has not
been properly sheltered may
also cause the disease.
The uRual symptoms are dull- (
ness and extreme weakness,
shown by hanging of the head
and general depression. There
is often paralysis of the throat, 1
^ making swallowing difficult or 1
^ imnnoci Klo o ltd au I i ira dsma r*i i

^Lh tho mouth. Paralysis of tho
hotly is occasionally present.
Mopt animals become delirious I
and violently throw themselves
about or stand with their head
pressed against the will. Others
walk around in a circle.
When the animal is noticed
before the ability to swallow is
lost, a purgative should be given
immediately. Three-fourths to
one pound ot Epsom salts, well
diluted, is a good one. Never
. drench the animal if it cannot
swallow. In all cas?s it is safest
to call a veterinarian. Change
the food of all tho horses and
mutes on the place until you lind
out what caused the trouble.
Do not feed mouldy corn or
fodder, or all.iw the horses to
eat mouldy grass. Careful supervision
of tii feeding of the
horses and mules will prevent
th is disease. 1

Calomel loses you a day! You

the bones and should never

When you feel bilious, sluggish,
constipated and all knocked
out and believe you need a
dose of dangerous calomel just
remember that your druggist
sells for 50 cents a large bottle
of Dodson'a Liver Tone, which is
entirely vegetable and pleasant
to take and is a perfect substitute
for calomel. It is guranteed
to start your liver without
stirring you up inside, and cannot
salivate.
Don't take calomel! It makevou
