,t Political Pot-Pdree
We shall endeavor in this
column to give from week to
} week such rumors on the polifcie
cal situation as come to oar ears
here at the county seat. Of
course any rumors that effect
I any candidate personally we
shall not print, as usually those
e kind of rumors are started by
d the over-zealous friends of some
of the candidates.
1- We will this week give some
r. rumors on the race in which
most interest is heing taken,
r_ viz, the race for Sheriefl'. This
race is unique in this county in
.. that the two candidate-? oppos
e ing each other have never been
r before the Deople before where
there was any opposition. Mr.
Ems Ingram haa never given the
people of the county the privi*
lege of voting for him before
and Sherielf Douglass has never
^ had any opposition in the two
y times that he has offered for
e Sheriff. Therefore it iB a hard
matter 10 form any very definite
idea as to the relative strength
of 1 he two men. Both are men
of the highest type and nothing
e can be said against their personr
al integrity. The friends of
y Sheriff Douglass can truthfully
sav that he has made one of the
'* (best Sheriffs the county has ever
8 I had and the friends of Mr. In
1 gram can well say that Mr. In"
gram would make a fearless,
cou rteous ollicial also.
Now as to rumors as to their
e strength, Mr. Ingram's friends
8 contend that he is stronger than
p Sheriff Douglass at the following
e points (however conceding
ii that vote will be close); Cheraw
the home town of Mr. Ingram at
0 present,^Mt. Croghan, 1'ageland,
f Jefferson and McBee. Sheriff
0 Douglass' supporters contend
. that although the vote will be
close, that Sheriff is stronger at
^ the points named above and
that the middle of the county is
- for Douglass. Chesterfield
0 which is one of the largest voting
places of the county will be
divided but both sides claim
that they will have the advant*
age.
It seems to be admitted by
both sides that only a few votes
will, separate the aspirants
when the count is taken.

REGAINED
A Rich American's Bluff In a* U.1
Where Horses Represent Wealth.
"The bni is so rich," said my host of ti
the Slberinn stcpiies (bnl is the Kirghiz
word for lord nnd mnster). "tliat what t;
we have must seem very small to klin. ?
But he has seen our herds; does he n
think our horses beautiful?"
I replied that we admired his horses b
very much nnd thut, although they c
were not so large as ours, their cos- tl
formation was very fine. F
"1 have n thousand horses," continued
Koornum. "How many has the bal?"
I stammered that I owned five. This _
Information produced a most depressing
effect
"The bnl Is so rich." he said, "and yet
he only owns five horses. I do not understand
It Sultan DJinglr lias 4,000
horses. Sultan DJitinnbek has 2,000 and
Adam Bnl is said to have 3,000, and
you say that you have only Ave! How
muny sheep does the bal own?"
"I regret to sn*- that I own no sheep,"
I replied.
"Ah! Probably the bal owns large
herds of cattle?"
"I have two cows," I said.
Tbo conversation was assuming n
most unfortunate turn, nnd I felt that
I was losing ground every minute;
something desperate had to be done. I
remembered that I had In my pocket a
colored photograph of a gorgeous hotel
at Palm Beach, which I had lately received
from a friend lu Florida.
"It Is true, my friend," I said, "that
I do not own any cattle or sheep or
horses, but see the house In which 1
live when I am In my own country,"
and I showed them the brightly colored
print. The effect wis magical;
the card was passed from hand to hand
with every expression of amnzemcnl
and delight; my stock bounded upwarf
and never nfter that fell below par.
May I be forgiven for my deception I?

Calomel Dynamites
A Sluggish Liver
Crashes Into Sour Bile, Making
You Sick and You Lose
A Day's Work
Calomel salivates! It's mercury.
Calomel acts like dynamites
on a sluggish liver. When
calomel comes into contact with
sour bile it crashes into it, causing
cramping and nausea. ?
If you feel bilious, constipated ?
and all knocked out, just go to
your druggest and get a 50 cent
bnt.t.lp of Onilactri*a TM no? 'Pnnn
which is a harmless vegetable
substitute for dangerous calomel.
Take a spoonful and if it dosen't
start your liver and straighten
you up better and quicker than
nasty calomel and without making
you sick, you just go back
and get your money.
If you take calomel today
you'll be eiok and nauseated to
morrow; besides, it may salivate
vou, while if you take Hudson's
Liver Tone you will wake up
feeling great, full of ambition
and ready for work or play. It's
harmless, pleasant and safe to
aqve to children : they like it.
